MOUND, BUT LOCALS ALSO HIT HARD

3 Harry Scarritt's Two Doubles Surprise Kirke Williams,
For about three innings yesterday
the Creamdales of Mobile looked like
a winning ball club, especially after
they hopped on "Lefty" Sneed's hooks
for a trio of runs in the first half of
the third frame, but after the locals
finished their side of the session the
battle was easily anybody's.- The
Ryanites evened the score, mostly on
account of Dixon's wildness.
Kirke Williams relieved Dixon in the
fourth with one strike and three balls
on Long John Showers and the bases
choked. Kirke pitched one strike and
then threw a ball, forcing in a run.
Dixon had previously forced in a run,
making two for the frame. Gaines
ended the strife by flying to left field.
, The fifth -was opened by Scarritt's
screaming, double to right-center.
Sticks drew a walk. Sanchez was safe
on Therill's muff. Sarra then drew
a scratch hit to the box and Scarrltt
scored. Osborn, who had relieved
Sneed in the third inning, hit to Wil
liams' and Sticks was caught at the
pflate. Ellis filed to - second.
Turner tingled to second at the start
of the fourth. Showers and Gaines
were out on infield flies. Scarritt came
up and Creamdale outfield was shifted
to right. Scarritt then crossed them by
1 - -
hitting Just to the leflj of centerfield
and Turner scored from first, Harry
taking second on the play. Villar was
safe on an error but Sanchez whiffed.
There was no bloodshed in the
seventh. In the eighth Gaines was
safe on Yost's error. Scarritt and
Villar grounded out, to the infield.
Sanchez drew a walk and Gaines
scored on a passed ball. Sarra struck
out. " .
Mobile's three runs were made in
the third. Dixon filed to left field.
Davis singled to left. Diamond was
safe on Ham's only error, Davis going
to third. Jackson lifted a long fly to
center and Davis scored on the throw
in. Therrill walked. Bassenger sin
gled to right and Davis scored. Os
born then relieved Sneed. Jones hit
down the first base line and the blow
went for a hit because nobody covered
the bag when Gaines fielded the ball.
Therrill counted on the play. Yost
then fanned.
The Creamdales went out in order in
the fourth and fifth, Osborn's hooks
and spitter working fine. In the sixth
Basslnger singled to left. Jones then
flied to Sanchez who went back after
what looked like a safe hit and Bassen
ger was doubled off the bag. Yost

The seventh and eighth were also
without features. In the ninth Jones
grounded to Sanchez. Yost singled
over second. Phillips then lifted a
long fly which looked like a sure dou
ble and Yost started for home. Scar
ritt got under the ball and caught
Yost at the plate.
The Creamdales will be in action
again today with a new shortstop and
a southpaw twirler. Ryan hasn't an
nounced his pitching choice and may
work either own or Kent. Cooper Is
expected to report to the Mobile ag
gregation this morning and he will
likely work this afternoon's game.
Mascot to Make Bow.
Shirley Touart, who has been named
officlal.mascot for the local club owing
to his French-Canadian name, will
make his first bow to the fans this af
ternoon. The youngster has been pre
sented, with a fine new uniform by his
uncle Chas. Hauteman and will rustle
bats this afternoon.
STATE TRACK AND FIELD
MEET IN GEORGIA TODAY
ATLANTA, Ga., April 29. One hun
dred and eight athletes representing five
Georgia institutions have been entered
for the state track and field meet which
will be held here tomorrow on the cam
pus of Emory University. Emory, Geor-
)a, and Georgia Technical will be rep
resented by thirty men each, Oglethorpe
by eight and Piedmont College by ten.
