Misses Hoke, Bordeaux, Rogers, Love and Grace, Junior Voice pupils of Miss Brown were heard r.i a bril liant recital at the College last Wed nesday evening. Although Mis Brown's recitals are always en joyable, this one was marked by an unusually beautifully program ren dered with remarkable proficiency of technique and great depth of feeling. The program was composed of at tractive operatic numbers and charm- ing little songs of exquisite senti ment and melody. All the voices showed excellent aud persistent train ing evidoiced by their adequate range, clearness of tone, perfection of ex pression, and distinctness of pro nunciation. The operatic numbers which were rendered in French were sung with a facility that was trulj delightful, and which reflects muck credit on the French, as well as the voice department. Besides the solos, the audience es specially appreciated the quartette which was an adaptation of the ever beloved "Blue Danube Waltzes," and the arrangement of the famous song from "II Trovatore," "Ah, I Have Sighed to' Rest Me." The young, ladies rendered the former . with a ! vivacity that was as captivating as "Charming May" itself, and the lat ter, with a real poignancy of emotj ion. We should relish keenly more of this kind of singling. " Courtesy to Miss Johnston. The delightful Euchre Tarty at which Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Johnston honored their lovely, guest, Mips Mar ion Johnston, of Virginia, on last Fri day evening, was one of the most con spicuously enjoyable events of the week. ' -: ;". ... C. Bill ups, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Tope. Mothers' and Daughters' Reception The annual entertainment compli mentary to the mothers and daugh ters of the S. D. Lee High School, which is an established feature of the Lee High Parent-Teacher activities, was given at ine nign scnooi lasi Wednesday afternoon, and an inform al reception and welcome to the Parent-Teacher officers for next year, gave pleasure to a large number of guests. As president of the outgoing of ficers, Mrs. H. M. Pratt, presided, welcoming the new president, Mrs. E. T. Baird, with charmingly cordial words presenting Mrs. Baird and al so congratulating the association upon its good fortune in obtaining such a president. ' In well chosen words, Mrs. Baird responded, expressing appreciation of the honor and asking the sympathetic co-operation of the mothers and daughters in next year's undertakings . In the interlude following, Mrs. I. H. Simon sang, "When Love Is Kind." Mrs. Baird took charge of the pro gram, in which each class was rep resented in welcome addresses given by Miss Ada Morris for the Freshmen, Miss Katherine Cocke for the Sopho mores, Miss Mary Pulliam for the Juniors and Miss Fannie Harrison for the ScMiors. Their subjects were respectively, Sympathy, Co-operation, Loyalty, and Comradealhip. An important meeting of the M. S. C. W. Alumnae Association was held at the College last Monday to con sider matters connected with the forthcoming commencement, a"nd to make plans for the contemplated ban quet. In connection .with the latter, this year will witness a very pleas ing innovation. As a compliment to ;Mrs. McNair, and in recognition of her first year's incumbency on the board of trustees, it was decided to extend am invitation to the board of trustees amd the husbands of the alu- imnae members to attend the annual banquet which will be giv;n at the Commercial Hotel. i The secretary was instructed to send a telegram of congratulations to Miss Josephine Fitts, an alumnae of M.
