Mayo & Weaver. Base Ball Notes. Manager Ottley promises the people a series of interesting games this week. To-morrow the boys will line up against an aggregation from Birmingham. Some good ball may well be ex pected from this series, as Bir mingham has always sent out strong teams. It is in our own State, however, that the boys need look for hard playing. A series has been backed with Hazelhurt to begin next week. Hazelhurst has one of the strong est amateur nines in the State aud without doubt will put up a good tight for at least two of the three games. The boys are eager to get at them. They say they are tired of playing with a surety of beating, and wantsome thiug a little harder to beat than they have had lately. About the 20th of July Man ager Ottley intends taking the team for a two weeks tour of the Southern part of the State, pla.ying at Hazelhurst, New Or leans and other points where games can be arranged. Vernon Sun day. From reports it was a most enjoyable affair. Mr. Jim Hudson left Monday for Memphis, where he goes to accept a position with a promi nent drug firm of that city. Mr. W. E. Morton spent two days in the city on his way to Huntsville, Ala., where he has accepted a position as foreman in the Dallas Cotton Mills. On account of the 4th falling on Saturday the clerks and business men of this city will celebrate on the 3rd with a picnic at Eggles ton Springs. Mr. R. J. Gunter returned Sunday from Birmingham. His son Emmett, who has been quite sick, we are glad to report some better now. Plans are on foot by the Col umbus Riflemen to celebrate the 66th anniversary of this organi zation on the 11th of August with appropriate exercises. The annual memorial exercises of the Caledonia Lodge I. O. O. F. was held at Woodlawn Sun day afternoon. A large crowd attended this service and an ex cellent meeting is reported. Rev. G. O. Hubbert preached the memorial sermon. Card of Thanks.
