That best describes "Step Lively," which began a week's engage ment at the Lyric Theatre yesterday : afternoon. fflThe show has life. The stage is covered With pretty maidens, and all of them visio.ns. In pulchri tude they excel. Taken all in all, they are a study in proportion. No fault can be found in either respect They are costumed in style that we have been dead to expect only in $2 shows. The songs are new and snappy. Taken in all, "Step Lively" is a popular priced musical comedy masterpiece. Its reputation had evi dently preceded yesterday's perform ance, for several hundred more than the law allows applied for admission but were turned away. "Step Lively" may lay claim to sev eral class A entertainers. Naomi, a young lady fair of face and favored of form, who plays the violin, sings and dances, and does all three well is the star of the piece. Naomi has per sonality, that pearl of priceless value. She fascinated yesterday afternoon's audience and drew encore after^ncore when she sang "Bouncing, at the Rub ber Ball," again when she played Drdla's and Schubert's Serenades Her rendition of the last two numebrs was a triumph. Among other num bers that were well sung were "Walk in' the Dog," "Pretty China Lady," "My Hawaiian Love," "Hello, Sweet heart" and "Some Girls Do and Some Girls Don't." Hal Johnson, a protean artist and female impersonator of no mean abil ity, dance dhis way effectively through the performance, while Florence Lit tle, who will be remembered by hei tresses and clear and soft voice, again came back on the loca 1 theatrical horizon. Clyde Long, the comedian of "Step Lively," as Rumhauser, a pickle manlfacturer, and Geo. P Wat son, with his voding old-time num bers, pleased the audience Billie Wyse in blackface also assisted in drawing many laughs "Step Lively" has some plot But this is the least of the Show. The dialogue and sayings are snappy, and m m It Always Helps says Mrs. Sylvania Woods, of Clifton Mills, Ky., In writing of her experience with Cardui, the woman s tonic.
