AN URGENT APPEAL. j 1 For the past two years the King's Daughters have handled the United the j Charity with the funds subscribed by ,a few of the Greenwood citizens and jfrom the King's Daughters treasury, There never has been enough sub scribed to carry on the work, and the \ collections this summer have been very in poor. We now have a family that is desti tute and sick; the mother has tuberou ] os i3 and the two little children the not j whooping cough. We want to send | them out west, where the mother may have a chance to be spared to help raise her children. It will cost at ! least $75.00. But looking from a fin ancial point of view this will even be cheaper than keeping them here to buy clothing, food milk, eggs and fuel for the winter, but don't you think it the humane thing to do? Now, we are fioing to ask any one that would like to contribute toward this charitable deed, to send it or phone at once to Mrs. C. P. Pepper, Secretary of United Charity. We would not make this public ap peal—especially now, when so many demands are being made on our purse strings—if there was any money in the King's Daughters treasury. But we are going to be compelled to borrow more money to maintain hospital, and can we afford to let the poor unfortunate at our very doors suffer? you going to do about it? MRS. J. L. When it was announced that a Daily for Green wood was to be launched, in common with many others, an ambitious ex cuse from a proud little city was look ed for, more than anything else.- Few believed that the town, as ambitious, prosperous, .and solid as it is, could or would really support as solid and sub-iontial a daily paper as you are publishing. Typographically, editor ially, in local and general news.-and in high class, interesting advertising, it ranks right along with the dallies i of cities numbering thirty end forty thousand inhabitants. One is able I to subscribe far it for what it fa worth —not merely or even partially a$ a feeling of local pride or duty. It is the best single advertisement the city of Greenwood ha». A SUBSCRIBER.
