Beaumont, Oct. 30.—Yesterday evening while the northbound passen ger train was here, O. Y. Bryan, the agent, was taking express from the oar when Roberts, a contractor of New Augusta ran agaiDst him nearly knocking him down. Bryan asked Roberta to stand out of the way as he was busy. When the train pulled out Roberts was standing on the steps of the car and cursed Bryan and shot at him, the ball striking him in the! right side just above the hip, cutting its depth for about three inches. Bry an is at his post diis morning, but a little sore. Hon. Edgar S. Wilson Among the appieciated callers at our office today was our old-time friead, Mr. Edgar S. Wilson, our ac quaintance with him dating hack to the time when he was editor of the old "Mississippian" at Jackson, can be said of Wilson that as corres pondent of the New Orlaens Picayune, he never lost an opportunity to boost Mississippi and much of tbe industrial boom that the state is experieuci"g 1 * due to his good work, he and the lamented H. H. Hargrove, were counterparts, and our readres all remember the work of Mr. Hargrove. Mr. Wilson is sojourning for a few days at Mammoth Springs, finding the water there very beneficial, and was just in the city for a couple of hours between trains. lt In this line To Whom it May Concern Through some mistake ot from mo tive, the report has been circalated that I claimed to be the man driving with the negro at the time the crime was committed in Mr. Allen's home. This is a mistake, and a very serious one, as I never saw or heard of the negro and furtliermoie, I am not in the habit of driving at that time of morning. These parties interested would do me a great favor if*they would inves tigate further, aud find out who the right man is whose names are very similar to mine, probably there ie where the mistake lies, and as I have no anthority to publish their names, I am compelled to withhold same. Miss MeKinsfry is a daughter of Capt. E. H. McKinstry, of Hattiies bnrg, ki d is one of our most popular young ladies.
