Birmingham, Ala., June 6.—The ad
vance guard of .Confederate Veterans
Is arriving today. Hundreds, of the
"old boys" reach the city on every
train. . *
The members of General Forrest's
staff met this morning and other di
vision reunions will be held during
the day.
The city is gorgeously decorated
with Confederate flags and bunting
and the stars and bars are displayed
from hundreds of residences.
All of the visiting veterans who de
sire it; are given bed^and board free
at Camp Gordon.
The outlook Is that the crowds this
year will be larger than at any former
reunion, despite-the fact that the griz
zled veterans of the "Lost Cause" are
continually crossing the river to their
eternal rest an<P reward.

rn collision between two .special cars
on the Washington, Baltimore and An
napolis Electric Railroad shortly be
fore 8 o'clock last night, eight persons
were killed outright and a score of
others were seriously Injured, some
of them perhaps fatally. The collision
wa§ due to a confusion of orders as
the line has been running several ex
tra cars each way in connection with
the commencement festivities at the
Naval Academy. The dead are:

clal investigation has been ordered of
the explosion of a boiler tube on board
the armored cruiser Tennessee late
yesterday afternoon, when six sailors
were killed. The vessel was forced
todajr to dock for repairs. The four
dead sailors were hurled this after
noon with simple honors.
The cruiser Tennessee Is the flag
ship of Rear Admiral Sebree, Captain
Thomas B. Howard commanding, and
is the flagship of the second division
of the Pacific coast fleet. She Is one
of the'new armored cruisers of 14,500
tons displacement, 22 knots, and car
ries a complement of about 000.

The armored cruiser Tennessee,
commanded by Captain Thos. B. How
ai d, was launched Dec. 3, 1904, at the j
yards of the Cramp Shipbuilding Com
pany in the presence of Governor Fra
zier, of Tennessee, and his staff and
a large number of
guests. The vessel was christened by
the 16-year-old daughter of the Gov
ernor, Miss Annie Keith' Frazier. The
Tennessee, with the Washington, pre
ceded Admiral Evans' battleship fleet
to the Pacific, sailing from Hampton
Roads October 12, of last year. On
that voyage she was the flagship of
Rear Admiral Muriel Sebree.
Tennessee is now attached to the sec
ond division of tlie first squadron of
the Pacific fleet.
