attorney for Bradley, when the wit
ness balked at the first question asked
him. Attorney Conner asked, "What j

peared to be getting ready to speak,
but not a word did he utter.
"You must answer the question,"
said Judge Johnson.
Still the negro sat speechless.

After giving him ample time to
make up his mind, the Judge told the
officers to take the negro to jail for
contempt of court, which was done.
