TURKISH PARLIAMENT
MEETS FOR FIRST TIME

Constantinople, October 31.—In re
sponse to the imperial tirade of Sul
tan Abdul Hamid, following his res
toration last July of the constitution
of 1S7S, the first Turkish Parliament
| will convene tomorrow. The Turkish
i reform party, the Young Turks, is
j hopeful of great and momentous re
; suits from the coming session, looking
upon it ns the forerunner of a mod-'
| ernized and advanced nation, freed
f f rom a n the bloddy despotism that
has so long disgraced Turkey in the
| eyes of the civilized world and made
the plague spot of mope.
j The present trouble in the Balkans,
the loss of Bulgaria and the possibility
of a long and ruinous war, bode ill for
i the first parliament of the Turks.

tent to which money is being invested
in base ball is startling. One illum
inating case is that of the new Amer
ican League Park here now in course
of completition. It will seat 28,000
persons, and arrangements have been
made to accomodate 12,000 more on
big days. It will be built to last a
century. The structure will be entire
ly of concrete and steel.

San Francisco, October 31.—Some
lumbermen searching for new timber
worlds to conquer aid to decimate,
have discovered in Tulare county, Cal
ifornia, a new grove of giant trees,
numbering at least 15,000. The forest
is at an altitude of 6,000 feet, and ex
ceeds in area all other forests of big
trees. The trees are said to rival in
size, height and beauty even the fa
mous Mariposa grove.
