CATHOLIC CELEBRATION
Hearst News Service
Chicago, November 12.—Committees
of the Catholic clergy and laymen of
Chicago today made final plans for
the great Roman Missionary Congress,
the first of its kind to be held in
America, which will be opened next
Sunday. Thousands of priests and
distinguished laymen and scores of
bishops and archbishops have notified
the committees that they will be pres
ent, and every part of the country
will have representation.

OPEN GREAT TUNNEL
AT PORT HURON TODAY
Hearst News Service.
Port Huron, Mich., November 12.—
Distinguished railroad officials and
electrical experts of the United States
and Canada were guests of the Grand
Trunk railroad toijay at the formal
inaugural of the electrified Itnerua
national tunnel between this city and
Sarnia, Ont. The electrification of the
tunnel was one of the largest electri
cal railroad contracts ever carried out
in America.
The results have been satisfactory
and gratifying, not merely in clearing
the big hole from noxious gases and
so avoiding discomfort and danger,
hut in increasing efficiency. . Trains
can be handled much faster under the
electrical system than by steam loco
motives.
The electrification of the St. Clair
tunnel has attracted the attention of
engineers in all parts of the world.
The installation of the electric plant
cost $500,000 including the power
plant, wiring, locomqtives and other
equipment for an overhead wire power
supply system.

On Tuesday of last week the con
tinent of North America was placed
in a new category on the records of
the Catholic church, and now, Instead
of being a missionary country, it is
in the same order as the Catholic
countries of Europe. The congress
will celebrate this great change, the
most important step taken by the
American branch of the church in the
last century. Pope Pius V, will have
a personal representative at the con
gress, and will send a blessing.
Promotion of Industrial Education. A
list of speakers has been prepared
which includes Secretary of Agricul
ture James Wilson, Governor Hoke
Smith, Dr. Elmer Elssworth Brown,
lli ited States Commissioner of Edu
cation, and many other men and wom
en of national reputation.
ar.ees have been received from hund
- ds of prominent men who will take
part in the deliberations. Ten thou
sand dollars will be spent in enter
taining the visitors,
that an inland waterway has become*
an imperialive necessity and would be
invaluable to the government in time
of war.

have been built for the work. They
have among (he largest of their kind
in the wo rid, have a tractive power of
"0 per cent, greater than tbe steam
locomotive and can haul trains at an
average speed of 10 miles an hour
over tbe heavy tunnel grades. The
new system also insures.safety, which
is more important than efficiency or
speed, as the St. Clair tunnel since its
completion in 1891 has gained an un
enviable notoriety by the number of
fatal accidents which have ocurred
in it. The least accident to a train
passing through by steam power
meant that some of the crew would be
asphyxiated by the coal gases and
many employes have been killed in
this way. It was necessary to pass
through the tunnel that every car
should be sealed as nearly as her
metically as possible and the result
was by no means a comfortable one
for either crew or passengers under
tbe most favorable conditions.
Under the .electric system the in
terior of the tunnel has been brilliant
ly Ruminated with arp lights and
painted white. The absence of coal
fumes- and the ventilation make ■ the
uir in the tunnel now so pure that the
car windows can he left open'during
the entire run.
THE DOCTOR'S QUESTION
Advice Against the Use of Harsh Pur
gatives and Physics.
A doctor's first question when con
sulted by a patient is, "are your
bowels regular?" He knows that
ninety-eight per cent of illness is at
tended with inactive bowels and torpid
liver. This condition poisons the sys
tem with noxious gases and waste
matter which naturally accumulates
and which must be removed through
the bowels before health can be re
stored.
Salts, ordinary pills and cathartics
may be truly likened to dynamite.
Through their harsh, irritating action
they force a passage through the
bowels, causing pain and damage to
the delicate intestinal structure which
weakens the whole system, and at
best only produces temporary relief.
The repeated use of such treatments
cause chronic irritation of the stom
ach and bow, els, hardens their tissues,
deadens their nerves, stiffens their
muscles and generally brings about an
injurious habit which sometimes has
fatal results.
We have a positive, pleasant and
safe remedy for constipation and bow
el disorders in general. We are so
certain of its great curative value
that we promise to return the pur
chaser's money in every case when it
fails to produce entire satisfaction.
This remedy is called Rexall Orderlies.
We urge you to try them at our entire
risk.
Rexall Orderlies are very pleasant
to take, they act quietly and have a
soothing, strengthening, healing in
fluence on the entire intestinal tract.
They do not purge, gripe, cause
nausea, Aatulence, excessive loose
ness, diarrhoea or other annoying ef
fect, and they may be taken at any
time without any inconvenience.
Rexall Orderlies overcome the drug
ging bahit and cure constipation and
all similar ailments, whether acute or
chronic. They are especially good for
children, weak persons or old folks.
