The community, the county must be a thrifty county, the state must be i thrifty state. While we thought "edu cation was the culture of the few that education contribu ted little to thrift. This was our old notion about educa tionfine culture to a few fine folks. Something pour ed into the lap of luxury. Something "given" to some one, and paid for by another. The father used to say, "I want to GIVE my son a bet ter education than I have." Such notions of education rarely produced a thrifty son. He wanted his "dad" to give his also a good bank account along with the cultural edu cation. It was his "educa cationed" business to see by means of his great "culture" the beauties of everything, and buy them with his fath er's money. The old idea of education produced a big de sire for the good things of life, but little or minus abili ty to win them by mental and physical muscle. Thrift is a natural thing- the low er animals have it the ant, the bee. the squirrel. The old education was an un natural thinganimals did not take to it. Learning to earn and earning were not in it. Working and earning, saving and thriving were rather too common to have a part in "education." So the educated person, Contractors Notice. State of Mississippi, Chickasaw County. Frequent interruptions and re quests to repeat mar the pleasure of the talk. Concentrate on what is be ing said and talk with a smile. The firms that prosper most by publicity are those that use it consistently. Advertisers who are here to dav and gone tomorrow had better never have ad vertised at all. A single insertion in a single issue may bring good results especially when timeli ness and buying conditions combine. But the safest and most sensible way to advertise is to plan a campaign for a given period a season or a year and to give this pari of your business this promotion work as much attention as you give to your star salesman. Advertising is broad in its benefits and sound in its principles if conducted along logical lines and involving an investment that bears a proper relation to your receipts and profits. -Your first advertisement might bring you but one new customer but he may develop into one of the largest users of ' your merchandise within" a few mouths.
