Back talk—Aincent history— Ex, This may be probably called back talk but the o is another class of back talk, back tolke.r, back biters, back sli ders, or back something in thi3 world that are always getting their ‘back up’ at something about which they are not coucerned, and are always at the back of something that will cause unpleas antness in a community. Tfca soi* o: this country is pecnlftrly adapted to the growth of broom corn and if well cultivated and handled as it should be, it could be made a more profitable crop than cotton. The ground should be well broken in spring and layed off in rows about three feet apart, the seed planted thick to insure a good stand. When up about an inch high, they should be thiued toene stalk about every twelve or fifteen inches, should bo cultivated as other corn to keep down the weeds and grass, and should be ploughed until it commences I to head out, as soon as the head oomes out and the lop seed turns brown, it should be cut just one joint above the top roots. Th0 suckers will come out and the seeohd is worth more than the first one. It should be cut m the morn ing and let it stay on the grund until it wilts, t.hpn nut off tlifi straw. ami if the straw is very long the stalk should not be over an inch long, and lor the shortest straw the stalk should not be over four inches long. The seed should be taken off while the straw is gresn and the staw dried in the shade, liy careful handling so as not to mold in cu ring (he corn will be a bright green color ved usualy is worth from four to eight ients per oound as to the quality. There is but few acres of land in rishomingo, but what could be made to >roduce one ton of broom corn and if land el light, tiers i« always a de naud for it, infact it could be shipped :o any city and made pay better than lotton, and besides it is a crop that can ba marketed betore the cold weather. This may appear liko foolishness to ‘ome who have not tried it but; try it and you will know lor yourselves, as the writer does. RustiucS. Feb., 7. 1888. THE MODEL COTTON-PICKER. A Mod el Invetion. i I have had cotton-picker on the brain over twenty-live years; have made two models; I am now on my third model, which will be a perfect success. Thi3 machine will discriminate, gather nothing but cotton; can be put to work when ;otton is half matured, pick all that \s apen and not interfere with the nnma tured bolls; will work in any kind of :otton, large or small, and will do the work of one hundred hands, requiring but two hands and a pair of horses. As I have not the means to put this machine Oil tuo Uiainob) L tv 1 ) V> VUV fourth interest in it for money enough to complete the model, procure patent and build one working machine. I can con vince any intelligent man, that, when the model is completed, it will be a complete succ'ss. Then can you estimate the value of this important invention? Address J. W. Thorn, Iuka, Miss.
