Society ★ Clubs ★ Personals Bess Mitchell Class Has Party At Church . The Bess Mitchell Sunday School Class had a Christinas party Monday night at the Bap tist Church. Thirty-five mem bers were present. Several Christmas games, under the di rection of Mrs. Jessie Baughn and Mrs. Clacy Dacus were en joyed bv the group. The class presented Mrs. Day with a Christmas present of 8 plates of her chosen pattern and the Rev. Mr. Day with a belt. A delicious dessert plate was served to the class by Mrs. Day. CREOMUKSION OMb Ande ewcbltts Mrs. Tommie York Is Hostess To Football Team Mrs. Tommie York was a gra cious hostess to members of the Durant Tiger team in the private dining room of her cafe Friday evening. The Christmas motif was ear i iod out in the elaborate decora tions featuring a beautifully ar ranged tree. Football boys and their dates, Supt. and Mrs. N. C. Hathorn, Coach and Mrs. Ray, Coach Cha ney and Patrolman and Mrs. J. TJ. Skelton were in the group of 69 who enjoyed Mrs. York's hospi tality. One of the highlights of the evening's program was the pre sentation of an electric blanket to Coach Bell and a belt buckle and tie clasp to Coach Chaney, these were gifts of the football boys. The two coaches were al so given a purse contributed by citizens of Durant. The hostess was given a lovely Coty toilet set by the footbail boys. California Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Durham and two children of California are visitors in the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Durham. E. Brown and Mrs, Ray Beil and Mrs. B. j O. Beisel entertained. Miss Bullard was attired in a j lovely aqua dress with a beau i toful dark red chrysanthemum corsage presented by the hostess. Mrs. Walter Odom, mother of the groom to be, wore a lovely black crepe dress. Mrs. Brown was in navy, Mrs. Bell dressed in mauve with aqua sequins and Mrs. Herrington in black crepe with aqua trim. The dining room wras lovely with the Christmas motif being j used. The punch table w as cov ered with a lace table cloth and i decorated with pine sprayed j with gold, and red candles with ornaments were used. An artistic arrangement of a| cabbage sprayed with gold paint with a tall red candle in the i middle and encircled with pine with red ornaments, which re presented a rose, wras placed on I a table and added to the attrac tiveness of the room. Miss Carolyn Hays and Miss ] Nancy Tatum, assisted by Mrs. J. T. Neely served at the punch table. Miss Ann May, of Pickens, and a senior at Belhaven College, played a series of Christmas melodies during the shower. Mrs. Arnold Renacker presided over the many beautiful gifts and Mrs. James Odom, Jr., over the bride’s book. There were about 65 to attend i mis evcru. Wesleyan Guild Meets Monday The Wesleyan Service Guild met in the home of M. T. Wil-. liams with Mrs. Williams hostess] and Mrs. Carlotte Tindall co hostess, Monday at 7:00 p. m. Eighteen members and one visit or. Mrs. R. E. Moore, were pre- ] sene. i The meeting was opened with I prayer by Mrs. Ruby Herman, i president, and scripture by Mrs. I Mary Phillips. Mrs. Mary Luke was program chairman for the night. The program consisted of Christmas stories told by the fol lowing: Mrs. Jessie Lewis and, Mary Lewis, "The Prophet;” Ed i Winna Martin, “Christmas Rose;”! and Mrs. Homer Terry, “The Ma gic Christmas Tree." Mrs. Mary ] Luke gave the Christmas wish, j Interesting games were enjoy ed under the direction of Mrs. Mary Luke and Mrs. Tindall. A salad plate and spiced tea was served by the hostesses. Hostesses and leaders for next year’s meetings were chosen. Maid Of Honor Miss Carolyn Hays will serve as maid of honor, and only at tendant in the wedding of her cousin, Miss Eillie Clair McClen don of Jackson, to Lt. H. L. Mrs- Margaret Rush, and a visitor, Miss Bicknell. During the business session of t ie club it was reported that the club had gotten the Mississippi Highway Department to put up hospital markers. After the business part of the program everyone enjoyed the exchanging of gifts which Santa C laus distributed. A delicious meal consisting of turkey and a full course dinner was served by the hostesses. The table was beautifully decorated with tiny reindeer and red car nations encircled with greenery Arrangements of holly also add ed to the attractiveness of the room. The meeting closed with sing ing Christmas carols. James H. Odom, Jr. Honored With Party Little James Hilliard Odom, Jr., was honored on his fifth birth day Wednesday, December 12th, with a party in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Odom. There were 24 of his lit tle friends to attend this event. As the guests arrived they were each presented with a horn. The group then played games and sang songs. James Hilliard received many nice rifts. Balloons were given as favors. F. McRae j J — Durant — | I__I Mrs. J. M. Howard Entertains Club With Christmas Party There was a feelings of Christ mas in the air when the members of the Womans club entered the home of Mrs. J. M. Howard on December 13th for their Christ mas program. The rooms were made festive with Christmas decorations. During a brief business session two new members, Miss Elba Humphries and Miss Marion Bricknell were welcomed into the club. Instead of gifts for each other the members contributed to a fund which will be used for gifts at Christmas time for some un fortunate children of the town. Mrs. W. P. Taylor Mrs. C. e! Patton and Mrs. W. T. Hand were responsible for a lovely program. With Mrs. Taylor presiding, program was opened with the song “Silent Night,” after which roll call was responded to with “Christmas Thoughts.” The Rev. A. B. Pierce, pastor of the 1< irst Baptist Church of Kosciusko, was then introduced and gave a very impressive talk on “The Origin of the Celebra tion of Chrit’s Borthday,” giv ing the interpretation and his tory of the celebration of Christ mas Then lovely young ladies, all members of the Y-Teen Club, which is directed by Miss Estelle Turner, dressed in their Y-Teen colors—white dresses with blue kerchiefs and sitting on the stair way which was decorated and lighted in Christmas colors, made a beautiful picture. Accompanied by Mrs. James Bowie, these girls sang a group of Christmas carols which lifted the hearts of all who heard them. During the social hour the hos tess was assisted by Mrs. W. T. Hand. Mrs. C. E. Patton, with Mrs J. E. Sweaney pouring cof fee and special tea. The lace covered table centered with can dles and a festive centerpiece, and the lovely little Christmas tree on the buffet made one re- ! ali/.e that Christmas was drawing near. Several kinds of delicious cookies, nuts and mints were en joyed. Guests for the meeting were as follows: Mrs. C. M. Day, Mrs. C. A. Knott, Mrs. A. E. Branch, Mrs. Albert Tatum, Mrs. F. C.
