TYLERTOWN NEWS W. J. M. GINN, Reporter Mrs. Eliza Brister died on the 8th Mr. Sidney and Miss Velma Craft were married Saturday, the 8th. Miss Birdie Mae Birkham conducted a church rally on last Friday night Collection $2.50. Mrs. Sarah Bel Dean was seen on the streets ol Tylertown last Sunday. Mrs. Myr£ Lunday was a visitor to Mrs. Emma C. Ginn’s home Sunday evening. Mrs. Matnell Williams is a reader of the Enterprise. Mrs. Gennie Ginn gave a nice plate supper in the interest of ■ Spring Hill Church’s pastor, Rev. George A. Thomas. She collected $4.85. Mrs. Lillie Marshall, from Co lumbia, Miss., was a week-ei 1 visitor f with her sister, Mrs. F. B. Bates and . daughter, Mrs. Vera Hendricks, and little daughter, Joyce Hendricks. I Mrs. Vera Hendricks was a visitor to Columbia last Monday. Mr. Harsh Bates was a visitor to his old home in Columbia, Miss., last Tuesday. Mrs. Maggie Hill and small son, Dannie Boy Ray, were visitors to the home of Mrs. F. B Bates, Mrs. Vera Hendricks and lit tle Joyce. Cpl. Dewitt Ginn and Mrs. Nellie Ginn in Collins Addition are the proud parents of a fine baby girl, who has been given the name of Doris Clevia, bom May 23. On July 10th a fine baby gril was bom to Mrs. Marguerite Magee. The ba by has been given the name of Saud er Jean Magee. Both mother and baby are doing fine. T. J. Henley of Jackson spent a few weeks visiting in the homes of his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith and his aunt, Mrs. Mattie Nell Williams. Mrs. Maggie Davis and daughter, Myra Davis and granddaughter, Shirley June, have returned home and Mrs. Davis will return soon. ijratesviue News MRS. C. A. THOMAS, Reporter The Egypt Hill M. B. Church’s re vival meeting was a success, with 15 candidates for baptism, the meet ing being conducted by Rev. Burns of Bogalusa, La. Rev. Burns is a great preacher. Collection raised during the revival was $80.00. The meeting was spiritual and inspiring. Rev. W. L. Gates, of Collins, Miss., is the pastor. Our meeting closed Thursday night, August 6. We were proud to have with us Mrs. Bessie Guynes ot Boga Lusa, and her sister, Mrs. Fannie Bridges of Hat-nsville, Miss. Mrs. J. D. Lackey of Gatesville, has returned from Chicago, where she visited her brother, Mr. Aaron Lack ey and relatives. Mr. Lackey reports on his return a most enjoyable trip. We were graced to have with us our principal te cher, Mrs. Elnora Walker, of Jackson; Mrs. L. M. Nor ris, of Georgetown; Mrs. C. A. Thomas and daughter, Mrs. Cellistine King, Mrs. King’s husband, Mr. P. L. King and son, Eugene Anderson. Little Prentiss Thomas, the grandson of Rev. and Mrs. A. R. Thomas, of Gatesville. Mrs. Areola Apoe, 203 E. Hamilton St., was a visitor. The Revival meetings of Red Bone and Zion Hill M. B. Churches, will begin this week. We hope both churches will have successful meet ings. ! _._. Britton had as guests in their home last week, rela tives from New York City. Mrs. Glover Fisher spent two days re cently in Memphis. A Baby Contest was sponsored by the Busy Bee Club of Harmony M. B. Church on the second Sunday,1 August 9. The win ner was little Percy McCellon. His captain reported $52.00. The total amount being $82.80. Mrs. Ethel Freeman and grandson visited last week here in the home of her sister, Mrs. Augustus Baccris and relatives. Mrs. Freeman is from Brookhaven. The Emergency Club met last Thursday in the chapel of the Britton Funeral Home. Mrs. Joseph McEwen accompanied her husband, Rev. McEewen to Mon ticello on the second Sunday to car ry out his regilar pastoral charge t there at the First Baptist church. £ Revival meeting also began. Rev. R. ] B. Simmons Speaks At Mt. Center The Mt. Center Sunday School and B. T. U. Congress met at the Mt. Charity M. B. Church, July 30-August 1-2, with the president, Rev. Jas. McClenty, presiding. It was espec ially gratifying to see so many dele gates there to show their interest in the Sunday School and B. T. U. Con gress. This meeting was one of the great est ever held at this church, the President’s opening message was full of inspiration. Rev. T. C. Simmons, of Jackson, delivered the opening sermon, using for his text the 26th Chapter of Matthew, 39th verse, his subject being, “Make the Best of Conditions.” Using Jesus’ experience in the Gar den of Gethsemane. Rev. Simmons showed how He had made the best of conditions. Rev. Simmons is one of the leading ministers of this city, and is pastor of St. James M. B. Church, located in Washington Addition, Jones St. His regular service days are the sec ond and fourth Sundays, at which time the public is invited to come out and worship. Army is sending “picked combat divisions” to Britain and “the sooner a second front could be opened the better.” He said “obviously we are not here to sit on the defensive.” The Pa cific Coast, from the Canadian to the Mexican borders, was ordered dim med out beginning August 20 and for the duration by Western Defense Commander DeWitt as a precaution agains enemy attack at sea and on the shore.
