Ford of the marriage of her daughter, Do rothy Virginia Robertson to Lieu tenant Leroy Ernest Dobbins of the 25th Infantry, 93 Div. army. Mrs. Dobbins is now teaching in Colum bia, South Carolina, while Lt. Dob bins is stationed at Ft. Huach uca, Ariz. GIVES PRE THANKSGIVING PARTY Very enjoyable was the preThan ksgiving party given by Alpha Pi Chapter, Iota Phi Lambda Soror ity, Monday evening in the lovely home of Soror Elizabeth Buchan nan on Canton Avenue. Through out the evening the guests enjoy ed pokeno, other games and dan cing. This was the first affair of that kind to be given by the newly organized sorority and both mem bers and guests expressed them selves as having spent a most de lightful evening. Proceeds from the party will go for providing Thank sgiving baskets for the soldiers. B & P W CLUM The regular meeting of the Bus iness and Professional Womens Cl ub was held in the home of Mrs. Laura Collins, So. Roach St. Sun day, Nov 15. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Collins, the Vice president, presided. Plans were dis cussed and outlined for the clubs holiday activities and it was deci ded that a Benefit Dance would be given at a very early date. The club also plans a city wide scrap drive. During the social hour, Mrs. Collins served a tasty and attrac tively arranged plate luncheon. One of the delightful affairs of the past week was the Birthday party gi ven in honor of the birth day anniversary of Mrs. Elese Bra dley Ervin in her home 141 Maple St. Sunday between the hours of 4 and 6 p. m. Many interesting games were played. Those sharing the pleasure of the affair were: Me sdames Lillie Longstreet, Bailey, Lealer, Thelma Thompson, Ther dosia Jones, Rosa Lee Hollingswo rth, Lynne Lee, Minnie B. Bradley Misses Brucie Longstreet, Susie Moore, Katie Barner, Daisy Allen, Mae Oppenheim. Minnie June Brad ley, and Ruth Lawrence Bradley. Dainty refreshments were served. The Progressive Art and Liter ary club met Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the home of Mrs. Elease Willia ms, W. Pascagoula St. Guest spe aker for the afternoon was Mrs. R. L. Frisby. During the social hour, the hostess served a very delicious plate luncheon. The next meeting will be December 6, in the home of Mrs. W. O. Blalock. The Jackson College Community Garden Club held its regular meet ing in the home of the president Mrs. M. L. Brown, Lynch St. A very large group of members and visitors enjoyed the interesting me eting. Games were played with pri zes being won by the following: 1st prize, Mrs. E. E. Redmond, 2nd prize, Mrs. W. O. Blalock, 3rd prize Mrs. Elease Williams and 4th, Mrs. J. L. Reddix. Mrs. Was hington and Miss Earhart, teachers at Jackson College were guests for the afternoon and both rece ived guests prizes. Mrs. Maggie Wright had as her guest last Sunday, her cousin, Mrs. Carlee Robinson of East Chicago, Ind. During the afternoon pictu res were made on the lovely lawn of the Wright home, after which the honoree, Mrs. Wright, Mr. Johnnie C. Russell and Mr. Dal ton Swaggard had dinner at the Corner Eat srop. The King of Harmony Prayer Band met in the sick room of Mrs. Hicks, 1615 Brown St. The meet ling opened with devotion in which a song was sung, scripture read and prayer offered. Brief but in teresting remarks were made by the presindent and the lesson was taught by Elder Washington. This Band is doing a wonderful work going from door to doror77 going from door to dor talking Christ’s wrd to those sick in body and mind. Ten members and five visitors were present. The Young womens aid and W. Aux, met Thursday night in the club room Buisness of importance was discussed. The two departm ents are meeting together each Thursday night for the duration. The club is asking that all out of town members who are in Ja ckson working to come to Lynch St. Church basement to all meet ings. A very enjoyable affair given re cently was the Birthday Supper for Mr. Thomas Bennett, by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Bennett in their lovely home on Canal St. Sharing the pleasures of the evening and enjoying the delicious Chicken sup per were: Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Spence, Mr. and Mrs. T. Bolden. Mr. and Mrs. Odell Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Crockron, Miss Es sie Randall, Mrs. Bessie Terrell, Miss Margaret Smith, Mrs. West Christmas, Mr. Spence Parker, Mr. Bernard Thornton, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, Mrs. Rusher Pearl Tillis, Mr. Johnny Edwards, Mr. Newin Alexander, Miss Ayne Moore of Canton. Mr. Bennett received a number of valuable gifts. Corp. James Edgar Breakfield who is stationed at Edgewood Ar senal, Maryland, 101 chemical war fare service sent an 11 day fur lough at home with his wife, Mrs. Argentine Breakfield and family. During his visit he was entertained at a party given in the home of his brother Mr. Andrew Breakfi eld. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Norris Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Isiah Mayer, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ora Coleman, Mrs. Maxine White, r. Mr. and Mrs. William Harper, Mr. Arthu Breakfield, Mr. Johnnie A ndrew, Mr. Monroe White Wiyllie White, Johnnie ae Love, Maggie Duckworth, Genie Smith. Mr. Thomas Donaldson of Joilet 111., spent several days here vis iting relatives and friends. Mr. Donaldson has been living for the past two years in the Illinois city where he is employed. Pvt. James Garner of Davis St. now stationed at Camp Shelby was a 'Visitor here recently in the home of his mother and other re latives. Mrs. L. W. Whiteside of N. Far ish St. who has been vacationing in Los Angeles, as the guest of her nephew, Mr. John Turner, in a communication to relatives and friends says that she is having a most enjoyable vacation and is leaving this week with her neph ew by plane for Cannon City, Colo, where they will be the guests of Mr. Henry Bibbis, another nephew. Mrs. Whiteside is the sister of Mrs. C. Proctor, 1018 N. Farish Street. Friends of Pfc. John Coleman of Ft. Benning Ga., were pleased to entertain him here, after he had visited his family at Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Fenderson and family of S. West St., was called to Laurel last week to attend the funeral of theor brother in law, Mr. Joseph McGee, who died Nov. 11th. Mrs. Lena S. Campbell is con valesing very nicely at her home on Green St. after having under gone a very serious operation at the Jackson Infirmary recently. Mrs. Campbell’s two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Howard and Mrs. Maria L. Rodgers, of St. Louis, Mo. are both at her bedside. Prof and Mrs. Chas Wilson and their two children were visitors in the city last week. The Wil sons live at Alcorn College, Al corn, Miss., where Prof. Wilson is a member of the college fac ulty. Miss Ruth Cobbins a senior at Tougaloo College was a visitor in the home of her parents, Prof, and Mrs. O. B. Cobbins last week. Mr. Andrew Holt, son of Mrs. Levella Ross, 336 Lemley St., Ja ckson, Miss and the late Rev. Ja mes Holt, left last week for the U. S. Navy. Young Holt was a member of the Stranger Home Church, a teacher of the Young Men’s Sunday School class and di rector of the B. T. J. He will be stationed at Great Lake, 111. His friends wish for him much success. LINCOLN ADDITION NEWS Mrs. Belmont of Chicago, 111. spent several days with her daugh ter, Mrs. Mary Jane Pace of this community. The erection of a new church in this vicinity has added to the gen eral well being of the people here. Mrs. Eugene Davis was a guest of her sister, Mrs. Ruth Hodge in Clinton the past weekend. We wish for all the sick in the community a speedy recovery. Mrs. Lillie Griffin and doughter are visiting theid relatives in the Delta. Mrs. Carrie Robinson and family spent Sunday evening with relati ves in Edwards, Miss. They report an enjoyable trip. East Canton News New Bethel Sunday School was well attended Sunday with No. 6 class being the banner class. A large cro wd was present and one new mem ber was added, Mrs. Lena Will iams. Mrs. Orlean Morrow spent the week in Jackson visiting her nie ce. Mrs. Frankie Washington has re turned to her home in Baton Rou months here with her mother. Mrs. Estella Stovall has retur ned home after spending three we eks in Arkansas. Mrs. Fannie Casey is very sick. Her friends are wishing for her a speedy recovery. Her grand dau ghter from Jackson is at her bed side. Mrs. Almeta Mangany was cal led to Bay St. Louis due to the death of her mother, Mrse. Richard Teal. Mrs. Teal recently moved to St. Louis after the death of her husband. Mrs. Teal’s death was a shock to her many friends of Canton.. Mrs. Magnolia Lee ar. 1 little da ughter have returned home after spending a week in Indianola with her sister. Miss Jeff Laine spent the week end in Tchula with her grandmo II ther. Mrs. and Mrs. Vien Vanonanso lvee are the proud parents of a baby girl born Sundav. At this writing, both mother and baby are doing fine. The reporter is asking the rea ders of this paper to report all news to her in time each week. Grenada—The fourth district me eting of the M. I.
