SHEPHERD ENTERTAINED The beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Stevens on Pocahontas Road, was the scene of a very in formal get-to-gether on Thursday evening when Mrs. Stevens enter tained honoring Mrs. D. D. Shep herd who was observing her birth day anniversary. Others sharing the Stevens hospitality were Misses Ruth Golden. Elizabeth Buchanan and Mrs. Sarah M. Harvey. VISITS HERE FROM CHICAGO A very pleasant visitor in the city during the past week was Mr. W A. Bell of Chicago, who was guest in the home of his brother, Mr Robert Bell and brother in law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. E. W. Johnson E. Monument street. Mr. Bell, who is the youngest brother of Mr. Bell and Mrs. Johnson has lived in Chicago for many years and is in Dining Car Service. While here he was extended many social cour tesies, his brother-in-law. Dr. John son, doing everything possible tc make his visit an enjoyable one. -- VISITS IN MEMPHIS Traveling on the Panama, Mes dames Henryetta Stevens and Pearl Davis left the city for Memphis, Monday of this week. The ladies will be guests in the home of Mrs. Annie Mac Swazze. They will spend several days in the Bluff City vaca tioning and shopping. TENDERED BIRTHDAY PARTY One of the enjoyable affairs of , the past week was the party given ! in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Char lie H. Mitchell, 2630, Prosperity street by Mrs. Charlie Stewart Mitchell in honor of the birthday anniversary of her husband. The hostess served soft drinks, and a delicious plate luncheon of fried chicken, potato salad, hot spaghetti and pickles. Out of town guests were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Varnado, Mr. W C. Mitchell and company, Mr. Joe Prichai'd, Mr. and Mi's. Hopkins, Mrs. Bell, wife of Dr. Bell of Canton. This being the night for social activities the hostess served hot chocolate and cookies. The very quiet cex-emony was performed in the presence of only the immediate members of the family. Mrs. Ilililard is the daughter of Mrs. Gabereller Craw ford, a graduate of Lanier High ; School and a popular beautician at the Davis Beauty Shoppe. A. R. Thomas, Reporter Mrs. Lucile Ayers Thomas of New Orleans, departed this life Tuesday, September 19. Mrs. Thom as has been in failing health for the past 18 months. She loaves to mourn her passing a husband, Mr. Ira Thomas, who is in the armed service, one daughter, Doris Thom as, one son, Archie Thomas, par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Cephers Ayers, 4 sisters, Areola Apoe, Odessie Jackson, Addene, and Genell Ay ers, seven brothers, Theodo, Seph as, Jr., Leo, Carlee, Clarence, Mor ris and Earl Ayers, a host of oth er relatives and friends. Services were held at the Egypt Hill M. B. church. Sunday, September 24, the Rev. S. S. Jackson of Crystal Springs, officiating. A large crowd was present to pay tribute to this fine woman. Out of town friends attending were: Mesdames Cellistine King, Iness Brown, Fannie Penelton, Martha Mack, all of Jackson; Mrs. W. J. Price of Crystal Springs. Rev. M. J. Jones, pastor of St. Paul C. M. E. church and members; Mrs. Martha King, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Ayers, Jr., of Gulfport; Mrs. Elnora Walker of Jackson. Mrs. Carrie Thomas has return ed home after visiting her daugh ter, Miss Ruby Johason and two sons, Messrs Ernest and Justus Thomas and other relatives and friends.
