Private First Class Bennie Wade, son of Mrs. Zellie Wade of 309 Nat chez Railroad Ave.. Jackson, a mem ber of the 24th Infantry, now sta tioned at Gifu, Japan with the 8th Army. The 24th Infantry is a part of the 25th Infantry (Tropic Light ning) Division, commanded by Bri gadier General Everett E. Brown. Entering the Army in August 1947 he departed for overseas duty in Japan in January 1948 and since arrival in Japan was assigned to the 24th Infantry. He was a former student at Jim Hill Jr. High school. TB Ward For Negroes Is Approved The state of Mississippi will re ceie $625,000 in federal funds for the construction of a Negro ward at the State Sanatorium, Congress man John Bell Williams announced. Williams said his office had been notified that the Surgeon-General has approved the allocation. The building program calls for a 154-bed addition to the tubercu losis infirmary for Negroes at Ma gee. The total cost of the work will be $1,825,000. The state legislature approed funds for the building at the 1948 session. McLain Chapter Gets Sears Roebuck Gift Elton McLead, Reporter The McLain vocational school chapter of N.F.A. has been given a pure bred Poland China gilt thru the Livestock Project conducted by -* the Sears Roebuck Foundation in cooperation with N. F. A. chapters in the Hattiesburg. Mississippi trade area. By mutual agreement between the teacher of vocational agriculture and chapter officers, the gilt has been given to Jerome Woods who will be responsible for feeding, caring for, and breeding this gilt according to best farming practices, to return to the chapter two choice gilt pigs, and to exhibit the gilt in the South Mississippi Livesock show next spring. Woods is 16 years old, is entering his second year as an all-day stu dent in vocational agriculture and N.F.A. member, has now in pro gress a rather ambitious program of farming, and plans to enter farm ing as a career. County Schools To Open Sept. 6: The 10 Negro schools, plus the county agricultural Negro High School, south of Utica are schedul ed to open around September 6, ac cording to a recent report. Teach ing staffs for the schools have been completed with few vacancies ex isting. TRADE AT . . .
