Skinny Minnie was walking
down the hall at school where
she (as usual) walked with
Fatty Patty, They were a per
fect pair of “before” and “aft
er/*
Those two were always
complaining about how ter
rible they looked. Because
they both had severe weight
problem^ neither tried to de
velop a good personality. You
might say they just “wallowed
in their misery.”
Fatty Patty was at the mo
ment reading the rest of her
home-economics assignment.
Why study at home, she
[thought, when there was so
much good food to eat? Any
way, Fatty Patty, oblivious
of the others in the hall, walk
ed right into one of the boys.
‘•‘Look where you’re going,
you big lug,” he sneered dis
gustedly.
“Oh, shut up,” she said
Then she started crying anc
rushed to the room where she
was greeted with more sneers
.or being such a cry-baby.
Quickly, Skinny Minnie, too,
who was highly nervous^
walked on to home-economics
jlass where they were study
ing nutrition.
“What you eat is what you
ire,” read the teacher, Miss
Hudson.
The teacher continued, “If
you eat three welbbalancec
meals each day, you will feel
oettrs and look better, too.
Reeling better instills in you
a desire to improve your per
sonality and thus making
those around you feel better.
“Once you feel better, you
will do more to more to im
prove your looks by wearing
designs which camaflouge
your bad points and play up
your good points until you
reach the desired weight and
proportions for your height,
body frame, and age.”
Miss Hudson stopped for a
few moments to see whether
or not her reading had made
any impression on her stud
ents. As everyone seemed re
latively quiet, she got out the
scales.
Each person was weighed
and measured. In additiotti,
Miss Hudson gave them the
figure that their average wei
ght should be. (Approximately

Yes. it’s a nice time to visit
he sick. But first be sure the
patient can have comjptany.
And keep some ’‘don’ts” in
in mind.
Don’t be gloomy and don’t
be overly sympathetic. Don’t
offer your medical advice or
opinion. Leave that to the
qualified person. Don’t make
the patient dissatisfied. Omit
discussing the quality of his
care.
Don’t come into tlie sick
room like a tornado. Don’t
take children with you. Take
a smile. If you say you’ll be
hack Chen keep your promise
Don’t he TOO Inquisitive.
Let the patient voluteer what
ever information he wants you
to have. Don’t tell a sick per
son he looks marvelous —
neither tell him he looks half
dead. Be discreet.
PLACING FOOD IN
FREEZER —
Where you place food in
your freezer has a lot to do
with how quickly it freezes.
Unfrozen food freezes quick
est when you put it in the
center of the freezing shelf ol
a cold air freezer.
In freezers with cold shel
ves, food freezs faster when
you put it directly on the first,
second or fourty shelf.
In a cold wall freezer, the
closer the food is to the wall,
the quicker they freeze.
FOOD FOR BIRDS —
The children will enjoy
making this simple outdoor
Christmas decoration that
provides food for the birds.
Force skewers or sturdy
twigs into the base of the ap
ple to form legs. In the stem
end of the apple, place seve
ral small twigs of holly, ced
ar, mistletoe, pyracantha or
other Christmas greens.
Make nicks in the apple
with a knife and insert rice,
haisins small grain seeds,
Birds like peanut butter.
Place the Calenig (Welsh
“for the bids’') on a window
ledge wiiei'e you can watch
the birds from indoors. Or,
make several and place them
at the edge of the terrace or
one on each doorstep.
