H. B. A. i _ * ________ H. B. A. WILL NOT QUIT , _ Local Presidents and members of tha H. B. A. Show signs of improvement. In last week’s issue of the Weekly Echo we wrote an article with refer ence to the H. B. A. Holding its own. It is marvelous as to how, during these depressed times and conditions, the H. B. A. continues to hold a strong hand in business activites. However, it goes without saying that we are holding our own. Of course, there is some small fall off in membership this is no more than we should expect re membering the many thousands of folks who are jobless and for that rea son hundreds of H. B. A.s are not able to pay their claims. Whereas, on the other hand there are thousands who make the sacrifice to see to it that their claims are paid. HIGH DEATH ROLL If one wtould read the death list on this paje, you will find that a large number of H. B. A.s are dying. An Epidemic of Flu and other diseases have caused more members to die in the H. B. A. in this short period than we have ever known. When the last Boards opened on November 29, we had not one death left over. However, on the date that the Boards opened one member died and thety have been dying ever since. We have two Lodges in which two members have died, giving us four deaths in two lodges. Well we promised to pay our claim ants and we are going to do it We have more than 20 members who have died in the last 37 days. Yes, they are dying but they are ours and we are ....: *„ *V.„ i—, —„ *1 H. B. A. CASKETS May I advise all members and Pres idents for your own good, use your own casket remember, however, that you are not compelled to use an H. B. A. casket. We make no dis-1 crimination whatever, if you do not use it. But you do save money when you use it and big money at that. WIDOW IN OFFICE A certain widow came to the office a few days ago desiring to know how much money was in the office for her. She had lost her husband. Friends do you know that this poor widow had turned her whole policy over to an undertaker. She had given all of it to the undertaker. She had given us a written order to pay over to her un dertaker the whole amoipit coming from her policy. But when pay day came she felt the need of money. You may know that we did not have it when she had ordered us to give it to an undertaker. PLEASE DO NOT MISUNDER STAND ME I do not wish to be misunderstood. ' Please do not get the idea that I nor the H. B. A. would attempt to knock the undertakers. We need them and must have them. Some of them are honest and upright and will do their best to see to it that you get a fair deal There is a question in my mind, how- , ever, and that is this, why is it that some people when they lose their re latives, figure on their policies to the, full amount, put all of the money in the ground and then when they get through crying and weeping over their loved one thcly want more money. Tha^ is the way some of our H. B. A s are doin’. I think that some of us are; going to have to go back and get some of our money out of the ground if we are to be satisfied. There is no need to lose yiour head and go crazy, put all of your policy in the ground while you are crying over your loved ones, that is ‘,he time to keep your head and your right mind. Save some of this | money for yourself. The money is! yours and you may spend it as you please. I have nothing to do with it, but if you are going to put it in the ground, don’t complain to us. I heard a friend of mine say that there are some undertakers who, if ycur policy calls for $60.00, it takes Just $60.00 to bury you, if the policy calls for $75.00, it takes $75.00 or 76.00 to bury you, if j it calls for $100.00, it takes Just that to bury you, if it calls for $150.00 it takes Just that to bury you, if it calls for $200.00, it takes Just That to bury you. And, if you are a pauper and have no insurance, the City or County furnishes $12.00 or $15.00, and it takes JUST THAT to bury you. Friends there is something strange about this burying business in some cases, not all. Why turn all of your policy over to any undertaker? Unless you know that you have something laid up for to morrow. In last week's issue we made men tion of what the H. B. A. pays and what it is worth. We made mention of the fact that as an organization the H. B. A. receives a few bumps. But after all tjie H. B. A. is the biggest and best fraternal organization in the State of Mississippi, operated by our people and for our people. All of the Under takers are glad to bury H. B. A.s. Yes the last one, the ones who work with us are glad to bury H. B. A.s, and the ones who knock us and try to destroy our organization are glad to bury H. B. A.s. May I ask, WHY? It Is Be cause; The H. B. A. HAS THE GOODS > HATTIESBURG To the Secretary of the H. B. A. Enclosed you will find Money Order in the amount of $1.00 for December 1 Assessment for one of my members, i I have been successful in reporting for everyone of my members for the Dec- | ember Quarter.
