A State Cement Plant At a meeting of the Business Men's Club Tuesday evening, the propersition to build a state cement plant in connection with the lirpe crushing plant was heartily and unanimously en dorsed and a committee was appointed to bring the matter before the Legislature. This is a step that the State should by all means take if it is the purpose of the State to spend any considerable amount on roads, for it has already been demonstrated that concrete roads are the most economical in the ng run and the best at all times. This taken in connec tion with the fact that the State owns millions and millions of tons " of the very best cement material, and that right be side a railroad, and has the necessary labor to do the work, makes it look as if such a plant would become an absolute neces sity in connection with the State's road program. To neglect such a plant and dump millions of dollars into other states for naterial that could be made or he State's own property witl onvict labor would be litth short of an economic crime. It is hoped that the power: that be will make a thorougl investigation of the matter ant handle the business to the ver; est advantage to the State as whole. Mrs. Martha Josephine Tucker Hon. W. F. Tucker was called to Oholona on Thursday of last week by the death of his mother, Mrs. Martha Josephine, Tucker, whose demise occured on that day at an advanced age., , The deceased was a life-long member of the Methodist church, and as such she was a true and faithful Christian. Tucker, Woodville, Miss., and is also survived by twenty five grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tuc ker was the widow of the late General W. F. Tucker, cf Civil War fame, a short sketch of whom is most fitting at this time. General Tucker was born May 9th, 1827, in Irdell county, N. C, graduated at Emory and Hinr. Co. of Virginia, came to Mississippi at the age of twenty-two was a prominent 1 iwyer in Mississippi before and after the Civil War, entered the Confederate army from Missis sippi as captain, fought in the first battle of Bull Run, and continued in service until severe ly wounded at Rosaca, winning promotion to Brigadier General by service. He died at Okolorm -liss., September 14, 1881. Military histories of Mississippi end of the Civil War record Gen. Tucker as an efficient officer and gallant soldier. It may be in teresting to note that all of the grandsons of General and Mr3. Tucker, of military age and under, volunteered their service to the country, in the World's War;, one grandson, Captain Tucker Wyche, entered the ser vice as lieutenant, won promo tion to captain, cited twice by his commander for bravery, and once by Gen.
