We are glad to learn that our former young townsman, Mr. Ed Matthews, is delighted with his new location in New York City. The case of Brigham Young and others charged with peonage was tried before United States Commissioner Lem E. Oldham yesterday, and the defendants wars discharged, as there was no criminating evidence. The principal witness in this case was committed to jail here Tuesday on a serious charge. Mr. J. B- Roach went to St. Louis last Thursday after Arch Buford, the negro criminal from Oxford, who has been confined in the Grenada jail. The prisoner given bond and took French leave about a month ago. He is now in the Oxford jail awaiting j the Circuit Court. Mr. Roach ' had a rough road to travel on his . St. Louis trip through the quar : an tines, but got home Tuesday. Saturday afternoon about 1 ! o’clock the shelving on the North side of the hardware store of Lewis * McKee fell forward with : a terrible crash, carrying de . struction to the beautiful show cases and many other valuable articles.
