Text Monday, the 9th, has been designated as Fire Prevention Day throughout the state, a day set aside whereon the people are to remove from their premises all dangerous and inftamable material, give the house and premises a gen eral cleaning up from a fire point of view, and then they are to give special attention to the overhaul ing and repairing of stove flues. It is universally conceded that the major portion of fires occur from carelessness and neglect of ordinary precautions; an ounce of prevention in these cases would certainly be worth more than the proverbial pound of cure. On Monday the local fire depart ment will give a demonstration of its proficiency in connecting up the fire-fighting apparatus and getting one or more streams of water play ing on the building supposedly in flames: The demonstration will begirt at 1:30 in the afternoon with J. W. Mauldin’s, south end of Main street, building supposedly on fire, then will come an alarm from Ward 3, when the department will make a hasty run to the Carter home, north of City Park, and ex tinguish the play conflagration at that point. The demonstration of efficiency will doubtless be watched with in terest by many ot our people—the yth, at 1:30 and 1:40 o’clock. --M-j-- r, ■■ r.1 I, i =a Rare Vocalist Coining.
