The schooner Anna, of Oalves

rum, 2000 pounds of Cordova cof
fee, some bunches of plantains and
bananas, and a dozen or two of
talking birds of bright plumage,
sometimes called parrots. She
also brought a clean bill of health
which saved her from any quaran

pestiious weather and udverso
winds,- which sprung a leak in her
bottom and kept her out 10 days
on a voyage of 500 miles. She is

still linger about here. They have
a settlement or camp a few miles
southwest of tho Bay City, and
the "squaws" are now daily seen
on oui' streets, peddling Indian
baskets, of various sizes and quaint
designs, vhich arc both useful and
ornamental. They also peddle
"gumbo feli," sassafras, a lid medici

kill turkeys, squirrels, deer and
rabbits for market. They culti

hire out as wood choppers. Some
ot both sexes domicstieate and hire

come very near adopting the cos
