Henry departed last Saturday for Memphis on a busi ness trip where he will likely re main for quite awhile. Col. Simon Fried returned from Meridian Tuesday whither he went Monday as a special in vited guest ot the K. of P. There was a class of 100 members initi ated into the Lodge Monday ev ening. Col. Fried has tilled the highest chair of the order and is most efficient ou such occasions, and altogether popular. The Senatorial investigation has been grinding along. Let it be what it may, people will think as they wish to believe. The hotels, boarding houses and railroads are doing good business for Jackson in the meantime. Lawyer Bell. We take pleasure in calling the attention of our readers to the law card of Mr. B. F. Bell. Mr. Bell is too well known in this and coterminous counties to need any introduction by us. His reputation as an able law yer is well established and re cognized at home and throughout the district. Mr. Bell is elegently located in the rooms in the Masonic Tem ple over the Merchants Farmers Bank, where he will be pleased to welcome his old and new clients. Mr. Spencer H. Harrington, of Maben, paid our town a profes sional visit Monday and Tues day, Mrs. J. J. Henry dparted for Jackson Wedin s lay representa tive to the Old Ladies Home. — • M. R. C. Stone has completed the deep well for Mr. J. D. Gas ton, near Oktoc, and will im mediately begin one for Rufus Self in the same vicinity. This will be five wells sunk by Mr. Stone in District 5, within the last few months. He will likely go to Fayettviile, Ark., where he will sink some wells. Mr. M A. Saunders has re ceived his commission as County- Attorney. from Governor E. F. Noel. The appointment was good. Bright and successful career for Mr. Saunders in this new Held. It is a position of great responsi bility and much work. Friends congrate him at his appointment. Miss Leona Stillman, of At lanta, joined her mother here Wednesday and both will return Monday. Miss Stillman has many friends in the home of her girl days who were real glad to meet her and regret that she could not protract her visit. Hon. A. H. Whiltield, of Jack son, and Hon. J. H. McLain, of Gloster, have been appointed Supreme Court Commissioneis. The Citizen Committee has rsised something over $2 500.00 towards the construction of the model road between town and the college. Don’t forget the Goods Roads work; other counties are active. Let there be good roads through out the county, be a happy, pros perous and contented people. Don’t be a kicker, rather a good worker, a good useful citi zen. Car roll’s appointment for Circuit Judge of this District. One of the most enjoyable en tertainments of the season was given to a host of congenial friends at the hospitable home of Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Shearer, by Mrs Shearer and Miss Annie Sheaer They were assisted in receiving by Mrs. J. W. Eckford and Miss Tedie Rice- The home always charming in every par ticular, was positively lovely and tilled to overflowing with gay and happy guests. The ever popular game of 42 was thor oughly enjoyed by all. Delight ful refreshments were served by little Misses Bessie and Inez Morgan, Fannie Delle Eckford and Pattie Will Askew. For tunate are they who are counted as friends of these charming hostesses. Mr. W. W. Hall, a perminent ' business men of Longview, was here Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gaston, of Oktoc neighborhood, were Wed. nesday visitors to relatives. Notice. The citizens ef Oktibbeha County will meet at the Court House next Tuesday evening at 7:80 o’clock for the purpose of endorsing the appointment of Hon. T. B. Carroll as Judge for the IGth, Judicial District as will he more fully understood from the program for the occasion published in this issue of the News. A most pleasant and profitable time is anticipated by every one. This is mete and proper, and the motive, no doubt, is more appre ciated by Judge Carroll than words can express. ■ The Supreme Court of Tenn essessee, affirmed the lower court in the case of Col. D. B, Cooper and reversed as to his son, Rob in Cooper. While one of the Justices was rendering a dis seating opinion Governor Pat terson issued a pardon of his own volition to Col. Cooper. Mr. J. H. Houston, represent ing about the best Music House South of the Ohio River, is spending a few days in our city. Mr. Houston is a splendid gen tleman and thoroughly reliable. Thn Starkville Democratic Executive Committee selected at the citizens* meet ing Tuesday, April sth, 1910, met this day at 5 p, m., the following named members being present: VV. J. Valen tine, L. D. McDowell, 1), A. Saunders and A. C. Ervin. The committee was organized by el ecting A. C. Ervin, Chairman and \V. J. Valentine, Secretary. Tuesday, May 24, 1910, was fixed for the first primary for nomination of mun icipal officers and Frida} , May 27th for the second primary. It was resolved that none but white qualified electors be allowed to partici pate in said elections. It was ordered that the chairman and secretary have the tickets pri ited, each candidate t3 pay his proportion of the cost, the amount to be paid to the sec retary by May 15th.
