Elliot and daugh ter, little Mildred, who has been visiting pleasantly her mother, Mrs. Dr. Carroll, sister, Miss Maud and in the home of her brother, Judge TANARUS, B. Carroll here and her sister, Mrs. Jeff. Hollingsbead, of Oktoc, for the past few weeks, departed Mon day morning for her Florida home, Bartow. Her many friends were glad t<y meet her and regret that she could not protract her visit, Mrs. Jeff Holhngsheed and son, Master Carroll, of Oktoc, were pleasant visitors in the home ot her mother, Mrs, Dr. Carroll from Friday to Monday when they returned home. With the return of the college boys the town has put on a de cidedly business appearence. Our merchants are looking toward to a good trade and we hope that every body may be made happy. Thomas A. C, Kmcannon, of Tupelo, here Tuesday who was a business visitor. Mr. Kincan non is no stranger to our people and has many frieads here. Mr. C. E. Scroggins was trad ing here Tuesday. Messrs. J. C. and George Me Creight, were looking after bus iness here Tuesday. Messrs* D, D. Hartness Gene Nlcholds were Tuesday visitors here. Mr. Bolivar Ferguson was in town Tuesday. Mrs, T. O Stark and daugh ter, Mrs. C, B. Cay, Jr., are pleasantly visiting in the home of her son. Prof. Randolf this week. Mrs. J. Kolb and children are visiting in Webster County. Miss Eliza Hunt made he.i appearance up town Tuesday. We are glad to see her our again. Mr. Dunn will relieve Mr M. Reynolds as cashier in the bank. The down pouring rain from every angle, Ssturday was so continuous as to pratically pre vent any body from getting to town. A gentle rain would have been much desired and benefic ial. Messrs. Clarence, William and Elisha Vann, nephews of Mr. W. W? Vann, from Yalabuha County, are at the A& M. College, hav ing arrived Sunday and will be students of that institution. The boys arriving by the scores and the dayfor opening, about all will have arrived at the rale they have and are arriving to this day, Monday* Hiram O’Reilly, a Yazoo coun ty boy has canned 2500 two pound cans of tomatoes grown on one quarter of an acre of ground. He sells the tomatoes at 85 cents per dozen cans and owing to the excellency of the vegetables is having no trouble in disposing of them. On this basis, one acre of ground will produce over S6OO worth of—no, not cotton —tomatoes. —Cartha ginan. Mr. A. Kennard, of Starkville, was a visitor to our town Sunday and Tuesday.—McCool Item. There was a copious rainfall Sunday afternoon which is ben eficial for sweet potatoes and sowing seed for winter crops. Signs of autumn is at hand. Prof. S. M. Tracy, for a nu mber of years a member of the A & M. College facutiy. spent a portion of Wednesday and Thurs day in our city and his many old friends were glad to meet him. He has been in the employment of government work along agri cultural lines ever since he se vered his connection with the college. Since removing from here he has resided on the coast near Mississippi City. Mr. Watt Sikes was a town visitor Wednesday. We presume that he will exhibit at the Fair some of his fine pigs and if you have’nt something very good he is most likely to carry off the prize^. Hon. H. H. Sikes, of Patrick, accompanied his son Hugh here Monday on his way to Clinton where he enters Mississippi,Col lege, which we mentioned else where. Thompson who spent the summer in the mount ains of North Carolina, most de rightfully at Montreat is back home having returned Friday. Hon. S. B Washinton was a town yisitor Monday, being near ly or about three months since he has been here. Mr. Washing ton says that he has been en deavoring to make his crop turn out to something satisfactory, but is forced to admit that he never had a poorer than this year. We are compelled to be lieve tor he is not one that complains and always satisfied. At any rate we hope that every thing will turn out better than he now anticipates, for he is enti tled to the best. Mr. E. C. Ward, an excellent young man, of Kosciusko, was a visitor here Monday. Hon. W, H. Miller visited Longview Wednesday evening to see the progress being made on the building of the Agricul tural High School. He is much pleased with the prospects. He is one of the trustees of that in stitution and takes great interest in its affairs. Hon. M. A. Saunders spent several days in Memphis this week on business. Mr. J. W. Martin was trading here yesterday. Mr. John. Martin was a town visitor yesterday, though 82 years old is quite active and carries himself as one much younger. He is one of our oldest and mostly highly esteemed and respected citizens. Mr. U. M. Cotton was a town visitor, one of the most success ful and prosperous farmers. He never comes to town but what he brings something to sell and this time a wagon load of live sheep. We need more such farmers. Mr. L. M. Pritcara was a town visitor for a short while Wednes day. Judge T. B. Carroll spent Sat urday evening and portion of Sunday at home, returned to Col umbus and holding court this week. He will probably be hold ing court all of next week there, I the docket is heavy and many important cases have been dis posed of. HARDWARE. Senator Hernando DeSoto Money, died at his home, east of Gulfport, Wednesday, His death, was hastened from a fall one night this week from the pteps of his home. Fair Haven. His hip was fractured, from the time of the accident he remained in comatse state till death reliev ed him. The stale and nation mourns the loss of this eminent man. Col. Money was first nominated in Starkville for a seat in the lower house of the nation al congress in 1875- He retired from the senate on March 3d. 1911, and Hon. John Sharp Williams was elected to till out his unexpired terra. were laid at rest at Carrollton, his old home. The newspaper makes possible all kinds of private and public en terprise. If you want to get any thing done, whether it oe you children educated, your products sold, or your gospel preached, you have got to tell people about it in some public way. No kind of organization is possible with out public discussion. You can sell goods for more and buy them for less, through the exchange of information which makes it possible. A newspaper can per form these great services efficien tly only when it is loyally sup ported by the public. The man who refuses to contribute his small shai e through newspaper subscription is like the one who has enjoyed a feast, but who dodges the contribution box. Yazoo Sentinel. The people of Webster county are complaining about the board of supervisors permitting road contractors being released from bonds for road work. Blocker, principal of the County Agricultural High School, at Longview, was a business visitor to the city Mon day. It is expected that this will open by the 15th.of next month, if not before. Dr. Murphey and Mr. Ed wards, of Sturgis, were visitors Monday. Mr. P. D. Ellis was a visitor town Tuesday. A Prize Worth Going After. Through the efforts of Prof. C. A. Cobb and Miss Susie V. Powell of the Corn and Tomato Club work in Mississippi the De Laval Separator Company have offered through the State Pair a $75 cream separator to a member of the Tomato and Poultry Club for the best general club work shown at the Mississippi State Pair. This separator will be on ex hibit and delivered promptly to winner after award is made. This is also in connection with the cash prizes offered by the Pair Association for the best work done by a regular member of these girls* clubs. H. R. White of the Adaton community was in the city Mon. day. Mr. J. E. Harris, accompanied by Mr. B, V. Jones, came to town Monday in his Automobile. He says that it never gives him very much trouble by getting out frequently and never feels uneasy whenever he starts outfor a trip. Mrs. Lee Noel has recuperated from an operation and extended illness in Jackson’s Sanitar ium and has returned to Stark, ville. —Lexington Advertiser. Her many friends welcome her most cordially and sincerely wish for her a speedy and complete re storation to her former good health. President G. R. Hightower of the A & M, College, attended a meeting of the trustees at the university the first of the 'week. Mr. R. Vaughn one of the most substantial citizens of Bradley was circulating among his friends in the city Monday.
