The North Mississippi Confer ence of the M. E. Church South* idjourned Tuesday, having been in session for a week. Thee was a vast amount of business transacted, which will, no doubt, result in great good for mankind in the uplift of the Master’s work, Our entire comunity is glad to know that Rev. T. H. Lipscomb was returned to the church here, though it was not expected, for he has given geneial satisfaction, a splended man and a most, ex cellent and zealous preacher and a rissng young young minister, far in advance in his age, a christain gentleman of scholarly attainments and becoming meek ness. Another good thing, the next Annual Conference will be held in our city and we predict rhis far in advance that it will be more largely attended than conference for a number of years Our state institution of learn ng that is so generously patro died throughout the state, will be a distinct attraction. A wel come greeting. We believe that it Ims been 25 >r 80 years since it convened tere last. Mr. Tom Nirnmo, an old con federate veteran, one of Oklibbe lia’s oldest citerzens, residing ,outh of Sturges, was a busines> visitor here Tuesday. He very seldoms comes to our town, but i, man who stays close to ’home. He has been the owner of rained cats for years that he .unts rabbits, coons, possums, md other wild game. Some may not believe it to be a fact, but it s true, To the friends and patrons of the College, Dear Friends:- Any reluctance that I may feel in addressing this appeal to you more thanjcounter balance by the worthiness of the cause The*Young Men’s Chris tain Association, one of the largest student organizations of its kind in the South, is one of the strongest forces for good at this College. The membership comprises earnest andtrustwortoy young men, who are workiug for better social anv religious condi tions for their fellows. But the work of organization is now, and has been for a number of years, embarrassed by a lack of proper facilities. It has long ago out grown the small building which in former years was the home of the Associations It is now with out assembly rooms, Bible stand rooms, mission study rooms, or equipment of any kind. All pub lic services are held in the college auditorium, but such services are the smallest part of our religious and moral training The Bible studyjclass classes, the mission study classes, the prayer services, the reading clubs, and the social circles have no permanent meet ing place. An lopporntunity is now pre sentedby which these facilities may be provided Forty 1 hous and Dollars has been offered as a donation toward the erection and equipment of a Y. M. C, A. build ing on condition that the people of the state will show enough in terest in the moral welfare °f Mississippi’s boys to donate $2O 000. The proposed new build ing will give us ample facilities and will add greatly to the reli geous, moral, and social welfare of our student body. The reali zation of this wonderful uplifting agency depends upon the liberal ity of the patriotic citizens of Mississippi- The money must be in hand in cash within a months time. THERE IS NO CHANCE TO GET THE TIME EXTEND- ED, The building committee has in cash, or its equivalent, aboutsi4, 000. The remaining $l6 000 is yet to be secured, It must come a> voluntary subscriptions, as the committee has no one to send ov er the state collecting this fund* There are hundreds of men and women in Mississippi, each of whom could contribute a goodly p rtion of this amount, and rend er the greatest possible service to the young men of the state Con tributions may be sent to Dr. W. N. Logan, Chairman of the Build ing Committee, or to Mr. T- W Davis, Treasurer, Agriculture Col lege, Mississippi. Bonded* banks of Starkville are custodians of this fund. Every dollar contrbiuted or ex pended will be reported fo the Alumni Assooiation and to the State Legeslature. Who will send $5 ooo? si-ooo? $500? $ioo? or auy other amount, and help a worthy cause? Please do not turn a deaf ear to this appeal, which is made for the moral uplif of the young men of Mississippi, Yours sincerly, (Signed) G. R Hightower, Pres , Mississippi A. and M.
