Mrs. Ella Hoffman Murphy
A rare sweet soul was inshrin ed in the frail body of Mrs. Ella Hoffman Murphy. She was a woman of brilliant mind, and great strength of character, and for sweetness of nature, and purity of thought and sentiment, I have never known her equal. It was my privilege to be with her for over a year, and in that time I never heard an unkind criticism, a harsh word, or any thing sordid or base pass her lips. She saw only beauty in every thing and found the good in everyone. She had lost father and mother, her girlhood lover husband, a brother and sister and disease and suffering had laid its hand upon her body, but in spite of all she loved life and its many interests. Never a murmur of complaint, rarely ever a reference to her own suf fering, her thought was ever of others and always a bright ten der smile greeted everyone en tering her sick room. Her life was a benediction to all who came under its influence. Her place can never be filled, but to the sorrowing family let me say, her sweet spirit still watches over you and her loving tender smile will some sweet day greet us again, and then without the lines of suffering pain had wrought in the dear beautiful face. “Annann” Rules of the Road The 1917 edition of “Rules ol the Road,” which treats exhaus tively of the commonly acceptec highway rules for motor car dri vers, has been put into circula tion by the B. F. Goodrich Rub ber Co. It is dedicated to the interest of the American motor ist in the prevention of accidents and to the cause of greater tire mileage. The book declares that 75 per cent of the automobile accidents are due to carelessness or failure to observe the simple rules of the road. “If evervbody ob served city ordinances, accident liabilities would be reduced,” it says among other things. “Children have not discretion of adults and should be watched with utmost care,” advises the the booklet in warning motorists to sound the horn repeatedly and have the car under perfect con trol when approaching children at play upon the sidewalks. The new publication calls to the special attention of motor ists the fact that they are wel come to the free service of the Goodrich National Touring Bu reau regardless of the make of car or tires. Much valuable information concerning the care and repair of tires is also found in the pages of this interesting work. “Rules or tne ttoaa may De naa iortne asking at any dealer’s stocked with Goodrich tires, or at anv of the company’s branches. From the positions of the minor di visions in the Saturn's rings Dr. Per cival Lowell gets evidence of a greater oblateness -or flattening at the poles— than the planet actually shows to us. This has suggested a kind of internal oblateness the planet consisting of different layers, with the inner layers rotating faster, and thus flattening out more, than the outer. UGH!
