Democratic Simplicity. It may be a shook to some, and to more it may be a disappoint ment, but there seems to be every reason to believe that President Wilson will usher in an administra tion marked by Jeffersonian sim plicity, Without in the least reflecting on the administrations that have preceded it, some persons, are frank enough to say that with high thinking and simple living in the White House, with fewer flunkies and less gold lace in evi dence, there will be a closer ad herence to the spirit of the Consti tution and a more wholesome' example to a nation which seems to have become literally drunken on prosperity. The spirit of republican institutions should not sutler under this new regime. I he prosperity of the country should nit even halt, but possibly the expectations of the democratic leaders that prosperity shall be more evenly and equitably dis tributed will be realized. Ttie great commercial interests of the laud do not seem to be greatly worried over what Congress will do. The leaders in the House and the Senate have shown ability and self-restraint It is undoubtedly best for the country to give its hearty support to the new admin istration and so enable it to begin its work under favorable auspices. —Selected.
