READY FOR THE PICNIC. TJIE FORESTERS’ AMALGAMATED COMMITTEE MET LAST NIGHT. Chief Ranger McIIale Will Re Floor Manager—Tlie Games to Re Run OfT— A Variety of Notes About the Courts of Forestry. An interesting meeting of th e amalga mated committee of the A. O. F. was held in Roche’s HaU last night to arrange for the approaching picnic and excusion of the order. Chairman Wagner called the meeting to order, when, the business on hand for the evening being stated, the delegates bethought themselves of a floor manager. Chief Ranger J. D. McIIale, of Court Pride of Jersey City, was unani mously elected to the responsible posi tion. Joseph F. Flaherty, of Court Grove, and Edward H. Osborne, of Court Gen eral Lafayette, were elected assistants to Brother McHale. James Henriette, of Court Emmett, was elected chairman of the Reception Com mittion, and W. D. Reynolds, of Enter prise Conclave, was made chairman of the Police Committee. At the next meeting of the courts three assistants to the above committe e will be elected. The Committee on Games have made their list up as follows, and from all appearances there is a good chance for plenty of sport:— 100-yards run, open to all: 880-yards run, open to all; 440-yards run, for Foresters over forty years of age; 1-mile run, open to all; sack race, open to all; 880-yards run, for Foresters sons over eighteen years of age; 3-legged race, tug-of war and grand bowling contest. Entries will close August 25, with F. N. McCormack, No. 236 Grove street. On Wednesday night the Games Com mittee, headed by Chairman rteynoiaa, will be at Roche’s Hall for the pur pose of selling the programme for the big picnic. Here is a good chance for some one who hus enterprise to help a good cause, and at the same time make some money. The meeting adjourned to meet same time and place next Sunday evening, The meeting of Court Emmett, Friday night, was a rousing one. Five candi dates were initiated, an d if they keep on coming in, in a short time there will be a lively competition between thiscourt and Court Jersey City to see who will keep ahead in the matter of numbers. The main feature of the meeting was the sale of the bar privilege on the flay of the coming ex cursion. Several brothers wanted it, and they made it extremely lively for Auction eer James R. Murphy. At last the whole business was knocked down to Brother Hand, who bid SHOO for it. Sub-Chief Mc Guire was bidding in the interest of un unknown friend, and the boys had lots of fun. A number of visiting Foresters were present, among whom were Chief Ranger Sfaxon and a large delegation from Court General Lafayette; a delegation from Court Hudson, a delegation from Court Stevens, Chief Ranger George B. Crlssy, Brother Dale and others from Court Astley, also delegates from Courts Paulus Hook and Pavouia. Chief Crissy and James R. Murphy made interesting ad dresses and Delegate Fallehee spoke about the coming session of the High Court. Songs were sung by Brothers Abbott and Trumbull, of Court General Lafayette, and Sub-Chief McGuire, of Court Emmett. Brothers McGuire and Craig would make a good team. Court Pavouia met as usual last Wednesday uight in the Germania Bank Building. The report of the Auditing Committee was read and approved. Dele gate Winfield S. Weed made a speech upon the color question, and received his instructions as to what course to pur sue in the convention. Brother Lavin lias not forgotten how to open the beer. Sub-Chief Keoughan has lost his voice. Brother Scanlan is said to be a fine Dutch comediau. Some of the boys ask “where was O’Neill when the beer went out?” Brother Mitchell and Bogan were last seen tramping to Greenville. Where did Bogan lose his sash? When will Gorme ly’s baby become a Forester? At the last meeting of Sanctuary Ever Faithful W. S. Weed and Joseph Delo were elected delegates to the Subsidiary High Court. Three candidates were initiated. The officers elect of Court Hoboken were Installed at the last meeting with the usual ceremonies. Among the visit ors were Chief Ranger T. B. Crotty, Court Grove; Chief Ranger G. B. Crlssy, Court Astley; Chief Ranger J. D. McHale, Court Pride of Jersey City, and a number of brothers from other courts. Brother Seymour was elected aid to Grand Mar shall De Largy. The usual attendance of members was noticed at the meeting of Court Grove Thursday night. Three candidates were initiated and three propositions for mem bership were received. A motion was put aud carried that each member of the court take five tickets for the amalga mated picnic ou Foresters’ Day, the live tickets to cost the sum of 41,and the secre tary was instructed to mail them to the residence of eacli member. Ou motion it was decided to offer a medal, the cost of which is to be 410, to the member who shall bring in the largest number of members by loll nonr 1H rVnHir rr/\i- un no >1 4.. formed the meeting that ho intends to bring in the largest number of members himself and that he will not accept the medal, but he will let the man who brings in the next highest number have the medal. He explained that his object in refusing to accept the medal was that it would be bought with mouey takeu from the treasury of the court, and he is uot willing to be the means of reducing the sum in the treasury.Heinformed them that if they cousidered it worth whiie to make a present at that time he would be pleased to accept it, so long ns the purchase mouey was uot takeu from the treasury. At the next meeting the quarterly report, will he presented. The report will show tliat during the past three mouths nearly $300 has been added to the treasury, which will make a balance on hand of about $700. If tlio casualties do uot in creose iu a larger proportion than during the lirst part of the year, there will be about one thousand dollars iu the treas ury by next January. Court General Lafayette held a rousing meeting at the Lafayette House last Wednesday night. Chief Hanger W. B. Maxon was installed, the installing officers being P. C. K. Delo, of Court Hudson, and P. C. H. McDonald, the re tiring past chief ranger. Brother Delo made au elaborate address on the color question, which he handled well. M. F. Keating also spoke at some length on the same subject. There are now 130 members in the court. Court Triumph, the new court on the Hill, is progressing, and although but a few meetings have been held, yet the in terest is very strong. There is plenty of good material in it, and there is a fine future for it. A meeting of the delegates from courts in New York, Brooklyn and this city was held in New York last Tuesday night. A committee was appointed to secure the cheapest transportation for the party to Minneapolis and return. The lowest terms offered are $55 for fare, without necessaries—that is, bed nnd food, which will cost nearly forty dollars. The com mittee think that they can get a reduc tion of $15 on the fare. At that rate each man will spend about eighty dollars for the trip, and he will receive the price of the fare back again. At the next meet ing the committee will report. Delegate W. S. Weed, of Court Pavonia, is one of the best known Foresters in the county, and has been in the court a num ber of years. He is also a member of Sanctuary Ever Faithful. This year he goes to the High Court as a representative of both court and sanctuary. No Foresters are more widely known than James F. O’Mealia and Peter Scan lon, the delegates from Court- Jersey City. Brother O’Mealia is the P. C. H. of the court. Delegate John Faherty, of Court Little John, is well known in the order, he hav ing been in it a number of years. He is pt present chief ranger of the court. .... .V.G:.1.. . ..
