"93 NEWS OF THE WHEELMEN Foreigners Are Showing That They Will Be Hard Contes tants in Six Day Race. “Bobby” Walthour, who is now train ing at Athens, Ga., and Archie McEach ern, who is preparing himself at Balti more, have both awakened to the fact that they are not “odds on” favorites in the six-day race of next week at Madison Square Garden, although they figure out on form to be the best team entered among the Americans. It has been told them that two or three of the foreign teams are likely to make trouble before the long grind of 142 hours is over and they have been “blitting into work.” Walthour will finish his training tomor row with a twenty-five mile race against Bowler, It should be just a practice ride for Walthour, although Bowler is not by any means a third-rater. Oscar Babcock and Charlie Turville have been entered by the Century Road Club Association as the Metropolitan team in the big race, and they also are training at Baltimore. A signal improvement accomplished by the Good Roads Association of Brook lyn is the repaving of Fort Hamilton ave-» nue from Flatbush avenue to Ocean ave nue. This short stretch, which has been a main thoroughfare for cyclists and drivers, has been put into perfect condi tion and was opened to the public for the first time in two weeks last Sunday. For nearly a year this road had been in a condition that was desperately danger ous. Riders who now seek Prospect Park and the Coney Island paths by this route will find good going. Preliminary to the six-day race at Mad ison Square Garden next week, which starts at 12.05 o’clock on Monday morn ing. there will be a meet of sprint racers on next Saturday night, the feature of which wifi be a twenty-five mile race with prizes for leaders at intermediate miles in which several of those entered for the big grind will compete. SHUFFLEBOARD GAMES Interesting Contests in I. Grand Shnffleboard Tournament Several interesting games in the tourna ment of the I. Grauel Shuffletoard Club were played last night. F. McTague won from J. Mueller by a few well ^directed shots; F. Weber boat W. Winterhalt by reason of superior playing; R. Kurzschen kel won with I. Jacobus by clever woik, as did R. Frisch and F. McTague. Tne most amusing game of the evening was between Captain Matts and C. Frommer. The latter exerted himself from beginning to end and made a few very good shots, but could not win. although the spectators applauded him whenever tkfey had an op portunity. Following are the scores for the evening.— R. Kurzschenkel, 35: F. McTague, 35: O. Matts. 35; R. Frisch, 35; A. Sturgis, 35; J. Mualier, 35; R. Kurzschenkel. 35; F. Mc Tague, 35; F. Weber, 35; J.
