Rain Kept Jersey City From

Against the .Hoboken
Team Tomorrow.
The game* between Jersey City and
Providence and Rochester and Buffalo,
which were scheduled to be played yes
terday, were postponed on account of the
rain.
No games having been played, the
standing of the clubs is not affecter.
The standing of the clubs is as fol
lows:—

GAMES SCHEDULED FOR TODAY.
Montreal in Jersey City.
. Providence in Newark.
Rochester in Toronto.
Baltimore in Buffalo.
Rube Waddell, formerly of the Ath
letics of Philadelphia, of the American
League, will pitch for Poughkeepsie
against Hoboken in the game at the
St. George cricket grounds tomorrow.
Each team has won a game so far, and
this one promises to be very warm,
EASTERN LEAGUE HIT8.
Third baseman Devlin was the first
Newark player to make 100 safe hits.
The Providence team will not in all
probability play at home again this sea
son.
Nattros, of th# Buffalos, is a nephew
of Captain Jock Crawford, the poet
scout.
McIntyre, of Buffalo, is a player who
will be found in fast company next sea
son.
Jack Pappalan is--to rejoin the Mon
treal team after ^n. enforced vacation
jj^Kreal Club has signed Infielder
HEid Outfielder Brodie, both late
Bnto.
City is reported as having sold
elder Harry McCormick to the New
Work (N. L.) Club.
Outfielder Hargrove, of last season’s
{Toronto team, is now detective at the
Ocean View Hotel, Ocean View, Va.
The Providence team has been handi
capped by a poor short stop all season.
Bock, of Manhattan College, seems to
fill the bill.
R. Scanlan a *semi-proffesional pitcher
of this city will probably get a chance
Srith Montreal of the Eastern League.
He is at present playing with the
Bradford College of 'Baltimore.
There is a possible chance that Kiss
inger may come back to Toronto. De
troit has signed Pitchers Duquette and
Bkopec. This gives Manager Barrow
Bix twirlers.
All of Stallings’ outfielders, as well
ns his first and third baseman, are in the
.300 list. Atherton tops the team with
.350, and Hartman, fifth batter, has .3i0
to his credit.
Toronto has recalled Outfielder Wei
densaul from Utica. He is wanted by
Newark and Jersey City. Manager
Gardner, however, will keep him for the
present at least.
The Orioles are great birds to sing
from their bench. They break all rules
about coaching from the bench, keeping
up a constant chattering at the players,
the umpire and the spectators.
Zeke Wrigley, of New Orleans, has
been warned by President Pat Powers
to stop tampering with players of other
teams. Zeke was trying to coax away
McCauley and Connaughton from Mon
treal.
Arthur Irwin has secured, his release
from Rochester and will for balance of
Reason act as agent to secure players
for the Toronto Club. Jimmy Gardner
will remain as team manager until the
end of the season.
Several of the major league clubs
are after Grimshaw, Buffalo’s first base
man. Pittsburg has made overtures for
the release of tliep layer, but Manager
Stallings will not part with him during
the playing season. Grimshaw is said
to be just as good in the outfield as he is
gt first.
Thielman, the “iron man” of the East
ern League, pitched two games against
Baltimore last week, and won both of
them. This !is the second time this sea
son that Thielman has done the trick,
the first having been against Newark.

FALL TROTTING.
As a result of its success with a grand
circuit affair the Empire City Trotting
Club has dedided to run a fall trotting
meeting at the Empire City track, Yon
kers, N. Y., beginning September 23
and continuing for four days. The trot
ting will be in conjunction with the
Westchester County horse show that will
be Leld on a specially prepared track in
side of he regular course.
So successful was the Empire plan of
racing, inaugurated at "the Grand Circuit
meeting, that the races next month will
be held under the same system. The
meeting two weeks ago resulted in the
fastest average time eve^s^redited to a
grand circuit'meeting in the history of
the sport and it is expected that future
races will bring out even snappier com
petition. The plan calls for best two in
three mile heats, horses n6t standing for
a share of the purse after two heats to
retire.
Although not positively settled it is
expected that the trotting clashes will
be 2.09. 2.11, 2.13, 2.15, 2.18, 2.20,
2.25. and 2.30, while for the pacers there
will be classes as follows: 2.05, 2.08,
2.09, 2.11. 2.13, 2.15. 2.18' and 2.25.
Purses will be run from $500 to $800 and
$10,000 will be offered for the four days’
competition. The programme is ar
ranged so that horses may start"’twice
