JUSTICE DIXON TO HAVE HUDSON. Supreme Court Circuits Re vised at the Ctnference Last Friday. GARRISON HAS TWO COUNTIES All the Courts Changed With the Exception of Two Members. f [Special to "The Jersey City News."] TRENTON, May 31. 1901.—Taking advantage of thg authority invested in them by the last Legislature, the jus tices of the Supreme Court have decided on an almost complete re-arrangement of the judicial districts of the State. Five of the nine circuits have been changed, so far as the county lines are concerned, and, with the exception of the Chief Justice and Justice Dixon, who will retain their present assign ments, the jurists will sit either in new fields or have their present territory changed. The changes will take effect June 15, and a certificate setting forth this fact will be filed with the Clerk of the Supreme Court probably tomorrow. In the first circuit, which include® Atlantic, Cumberland, Cape May and Salem Counties, there has been no change in territorial lines, but Justice Charles E. Hendrickson, who has held this post since his appointment, will be superseded by Justice Francis J. Swayze. The second circuit, which is composed of Burlington, Camden and Gloucester Counties, will be changed, Burlington County being transferred to the Third Circuit. Justice Charles G. Garrison will preside over the two counties, in stead of the three, as he is doing at present. Justice Hendrickson will, as stated, preside in the third circuit, which, in stead of comprising Union and Ocean Counties, as at present, will include Monmouth, Burlington and' Oeeand Counties. Justice Bennett Van Syckel, who has presided over the Third Dis trict for a number of years, will retire from the court June 1. / The fourth circuit remains un changed as to territory, but Justice Al fred Reed will follow Justice Swayze, and will sit in Mercer, Hunterdon and Warren Counties. The fifth circuit will be made up of Middlesex and Union counties, instead &f Monmouth and Middlesex, as at pres ent. Justice Franklin Fort, who has the fifth circuit at present, will continue un ler the new conditions. The sijrth and seventh circuits are the only one where no changes were made. Dhie<f Justice William S. Guinmere will continue in the sixth, which is Essex county, and Justice Jonathan Dixon will Cave the seventh, Hudson county. The eighth circuit, at present compos ed of Morris, Somerset and Sussex coun ties, has been changed, and will here after include Bergen. Morris and Somer »et. Justice Abram Q. Garretson will continue to officiate in this circuit. In the ninth circuit Sussex county will take the place of Bergen, and with Pas laic will be presided over by Justice Mahlon Pitney. The changes were effected at n confer ence of the court held last Friday. Pre vious to the last session of the legisla ture of the judicial' districts of the state could not be rearranged except by the tanction of the legislators, but by an act passed last winter the court was empow ered to make changes to suit its conveni ence. There has been a feelfng for sev eral years back that the districts were aot equally divided, and the work in eome of the circuits was much heavier than in others. For instance in Monmouth and Mid llesex, and in Passaic and Bergen, the ivork has been considered heavy, where n Morris, Somerset and Sussex, and in tfonmouth. Ocean and Union, where here are ferwer people, there has not >een so much litigation. For this reason he changes were made. After the dis tricts had been re-arranged the appoint aeuts were made according to seniority, vith the exception of the chief justice.
