The Colorado Potato Bug ia doing great damage in Morgan county as well as else where. We bave beard of many mentis of getting rid of theai, am ount wbieb are prominent the use of Paris Green and also the nae of water in which Tobacco stems bave been soaked. We bave seen Pans Green ned, and must confess'that it is not advisable to use it. It not only kills the but, but also the potatoes " Thowe who have nseJ the water off of Tobacco stems tell us that the bngs are completely anni hilated by it, also that it aO as a manure to the potatoes, making them more vigoroua and henltlifnl in appearance ' than is nsual. It generally takes two or three appli cation of the tobauto water to do the work. The manner ef applica tion by those we know bave tried it here, is by means of a gardener's watering pot. Ix our issue of the 2nd. we pub lished the Premium List of the Morgan Co. Agricultural Society for 1871, and would now call atten tion to the date of the Fair once more. Bear in mind that it will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. September 27th, 28lh. and 29th, 1871. Persons who read the Lint will notice that the Society offer premiums this year, and for the first time, for Leicester sheep. Another new feature is the offering of premiums for the fastest walkicg horse or n.are. Another matter of inomett is that the Society will not allow anyone to mike entries after the first day of the Fair.- This last change will admit of more time for the exhibition of Stock. Persons can begin to make their entries a month or two prior to the holding of the Fair by calling on the Sec retary at the Book Store. Ken Him Sobcb. A few days ago, William Beswick, Esq , of Stockport, had occasion to go to Waterford, and he invited James Brannon, Jr., the Democratic editor that ia to be, to go along with him. Just aa they were about t start, Brannon suggest ed that they ahould have a pint of whisky "to keep them cool" as thev journeyed. Squiie Beswick thought tne suggestion a good one, and pur chased the above named quantity of the poison and wrapped it up in a coov of the Independent, and laid it away in tne express wagon tbey were to make their t rip in. When they had journ eyed far enough for them to get 'pret ty dry, tney pulled lorth their bottle. unwrapped it and to their utter asto nishment and disappointment, the bottle was uncorked and empty. Brannon'a racoon this discovery was unbounded, and he swore that "Bes wick might bave known that the In dependent would have destroyed their whisky." Beswick says that "if the Independent never done any good be fore, it did on this occasion ; it kept Brannon sober for once. Squire Bes wick is responsible for this story.
