BLOODY RIOT! In Columbus, on the Fourth. One Man Killed and Several Wounded! In the midst of the msny conflicting rumor about the turbulent end ftttl transactions of the Fourth, it hie been difficult to gel el the beginning, the mid die, tud the end of tbe melancholy affair. From the most reliable perions with whom we line sonversvd, we learned that the procetsiou of the Germani pass ed along Front up to (own.and thea over to High street, with the national flag at their bead, the red banner, which to causelessly led to the collision of aome weeks since, was born by the Turners who marched in the procession preceded by the Bund and the Military Company. As the processgin passed along Town street, it wes greeted with all sorts of insulting shouts, jeers, and abuse by various crowd, gathered at the corners, As they marched along High street, the nois in no degree diminished, the crowd in town being uuusuallly large, and uo little aid being furnished to awell the disposition to riot, doubtless, by per sous who did uot belong to the city. The cheif act in the riot occurred near the United States Hotel. There is uo end to the verity of statesmeuts in rela tion to this portion of tbe a flair, the main poiut on which the different ver sions turn being who committed a.t this particular scene, the first set of violence thaGermaus, or the Know Nothings. Up to this mo meat there is uo dispute that the processiou was peaceable and peifectly orde'rly, and that repeated manifestations of a hostile disposition had been made against those composing it as the) proceeded along Front and eroded other streets. We have heard direct statements that the first pistol shot came from the vacant space in front of the basement of the Uuited States, and was fired at the Turners who had bten already assaulted with stones. The latter here broke line, atd then fol lowed for a few minutes the throwing of sloues and the Creingof pistols, in the midst of which young Foster was shot and killed. As the killing of Foster will be the subject of judical investigation we re frain from any expiessiou as to wether be was engaged in the hostilities or not, further than to uy we nderstand that re liable gentleman whose names have been giving saw him dinging stones at the Germans repeatedly before he wasshol. This is contradicted directly by the op ponenls of the Foreigners. Several other persons were injured in the melee, but we have heard of none fa ulty wounded. After this engagement at the Uuited, States the principal excitement of the evening consisted in the arrests of Ger mans suspected of having been engaged in the affair. Some nineteen, many w ho were uudoubtly innocent, were taken, aud lodged in jail. A large crowd join ed in this pursuit, tome flourishing and in some instances hurling boulders, swear ing, cursing and makings night hidous, with veils and shouts, calling on the of lice r s to httug up to the lamp-posts end telegraph poles the Germans as fast as they was brought by to jail, or as they were marched along the streets. WANTED "SAM" HUNG. Some patriotic snd courageous indiv ldual manifested an extreme anxiety that the editor of the Statesman should be captured and immediately hanged. We have aa yet beard of none but Germans being arrested, though this surprises nobody, notwithstanding the admitted fact tint Know Nothings had their usual share in fanning the flame and carrying on the riot. We furuish the following items in addition, by way of appendix : STONED THEM FOR A MILE. A young Know Nothing was yester day heard to boast that be had stoned "the damned Dutch for more than m'ile, but becoming wearied, and find ing, as he said, that the cowards could uot be kicked into a fight, he gave the matter up. This was before he Ger mans had been eoadeiLtCTiie point of resenting the almost incessant insults that had greeted them during their pro gress through the streets. IN JAIL FOR SEDITION! Yesterday afternoon Mr. Bernard Kit ferdcerfer was arrested in the street by the city police, for the offence of free speech of having spoken his opinions touching the Know Nothing crusade upon tbe Germans. Is the Sedition Lav ol the elder Adams in practical opera tion in the Capital city! Is our city under the government of a mob, who make their own laws T IN JAIL FOR SEDITION! IN JAIL FOR THE CRIME OF BEING A DUTCHMAN. Mr. John Eilhauer, a member of Capt Breti's Rifle Company, who, on account of illiness, was compelled to retire to his home about ten o'clok on the morn- . ing of the 4th, was dragged from his sick bed on the merit ot tbe same nay bv tbe police, snd incarcerated in the county jail. He had been guilty of no crime of no breach of the laws bu he is accused of beiug a Dntchman. IN JAIL FOR CELEBRATING THE FOURTH OF JULY. 'Among those siiested, without war rant . on the nieht of the night of " - w W - tbe Fourth, mostly at thtir homes, and dragged out of bed, are John Eiermsnn Charles Eherhart, Rudolph Habensticb Jacob Lang, Charles Keyhl, Wm. Hei son, Henri 15 roc h and Con 'ad Westvl None of these men aie members of the Turner Association none of them bad been counected with any riot or breach uf the) peace. They were arrested on suspicion of being Germans I Thei accent, but recently so very sweet to Whiggerr. has finally been the aol cme,jjf leading them to a felon's cell NARROW ESCAPE. We understand that on Wednesda night Mr. J. W. Osgood wss passin . the United Ststes during tbe melee and received a pistol shot iu the greiu which yvas prevented from epteriog the flesh by striking bis mopey pellet, rul - and comb, in his pantaloops pocket. The comb snd rule were shattered by the ball, but Mr. O. sustained no mate rial injury. PA TRICK D. McKINNIS' EST A TE.
