Stafford Oil Field Makes Steady Growth Production Is Now About 300 Barrels Daily And Increasing Two good Injun wells came in last week. The W. E. Hawkins No. 1, said to be owned largely by the Haw kins family and drilled by Hayes Bros., rivals the Mobberly well for production and was at first reported at over 100 bbls. It produces over 50 bbls, by swabbing and is being tubed. It will flow thru the tubing. The other good well is the Gard ner No. 1, a joint lot well owned by Leonard Hines et al. It was shot Monday and is being cleaned out. This well does not have so much gas but it is estimated at 25 or 40 barrels. Sheridan & Hogue are cleaning out their No. 1 on the school lot preparatory to tubing. Same company swab oil from their Morton No. 1 daily and are drilling it deeper, a slow process, due to some iron or steel in the hole Isaac Tanner et al are drilling at 950 ft. at their Walter and Mary King No. 2. Virgil Watson et al are drilling at 950 ft. at their Wiley Thompson No. 1. Fred Markey et al are spudding at their Barnett No. 2. Clarence Christy et al are drilling at 1200 ft. at the Frank McVay No. 1 Raymond Ntuhart is drilling at 900 ft. at his Holschuh No. 1. J. T. Watson et al are due last of the week at their Ixjnnic Day No. 1. Christy Development Co., are drill ing al 150 ft. at their W. W. Sutton ANU. Virgil Watson et al are moving in to drill No. 1 on the Gussie Robin son and Cora Farley lot, near the Ullman and Prince wells. J. C. Luburg et al are moving in to drill a well on the Walter King farm about a mile from Stafford. Other Activities Larry Oil & Gas Co. are delayed by a cave at about 750 ft. at their Lee Baker No. 1. shot George H. Christman et al their No. 1 on the Edna Christman farm, in the Cow Run. It may make a small producer. Roundhead Oil & Gas Co. reached the Squaw sand Tuesday at then Shafer No. 1 with no profitable production. It will be drilled to the Grit. Emergency Flour In Local Stores Local grocers have reported that their flour stocks now consist ot new' supposedly darker “emergency flour”. Ellen Conner Is Contest Winner Ellen Conner, 16, Parkersburg, W. *V., high school senior, has been awarded a four year college j-chdar ship in the annual competition held by the National Administration board for Pepsi-Cola scholarships, it is an nounced today. The award was by Miss Conner, daughter of Prin cipal and Mrs. D. O. Conner, in com petition involving over 27,000 stu dents from 6,500 high schools throughout the United States. Miss Conner is a member of the student council at I*HS, is a member of the senior class executive cabinet, and has been an honor roll student for twelve years. She became eligible to enter the national scholarship competition when elected by her classmates as being among the top five per cent of the class “most likely to succeed.” Feb ruary 15 the contest entrants were given a general two-hour scholastic aptitude test prepared and scored by the college entrance examination board. The winners were chosen on the basis of school record and re commendation from the 12 in each state scoring the highest on the test. Each scholarship winner has the privilege of selecting the college or university he will attend. Ellen Conner is the daughter of Dwight Conner, well known in Cald well and a grand daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Conner, former resi dents of Noble county. NO DEATHS ON HIGHWAY Six counties reported no deaths on rural highways during 1945 but Noble county wan’t one of them, ac cording to a repqrt released by state highway director, Perry T. Ford. The six counties were Morgan, Adams, Cuyahoga, Harrison, Holmes and Meigs. The four with the greatest num ber of traffic deaths included: Franklin, Trumbull, Stark and Huron. REGULAR MEETING Regular meeting of the Noble county Fish & Game club was held Wednesday evening, April 17, in their club rooms on North street. Plans were made to select two dele gates from this county to attend the district conservation conference in Cambridge next month. Republican Voters Nominate Carr Davis For Commissioner. Mrs. Rolland Elliott of Caldwell, route, has been dismissed to her home after undergoing an operation, Tuesday. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gibson underwent surgical treatment at the hospital, Tuesday. Mrs. Hazel Lewis, Dexter City, underwent an operation, Monday. Mrs. Dewey Wells underwent an operation, Tuesday. Caldwell Youth Enters Competition At Detroit Detroit, Mich, April 17—One Cald well boy is listed among the thou sands of youth throughout the United States entered in the 1946 competi tion of the Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild for building of model auto mobiles and Napoleonic coaches. The Caldwell entrant in the model car competition is: William Howiler, 305 Main street, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Howiler. The Craftsman’s guild, an educa tional foundation sponsored by the Fisher Body Division of General Motors, is offering $75,000 in awards in the 1946 competition, including eight university scholarships. The competition is open to all boys re siding in the United States who are between 12 and 20 years of age. In addition to the national com petition for boys, the Craftsman’s Guild is sponsoring a special $30,000 competition for hospitalized mem bers of the nation’s armed forces. Walters, formerly of Summerfield, died Tuesday, April 2 at St. Lukes hospital of Cleveland, from a heart ailment. Mr. Walters was the son of Thomas and Sarah Walters, nee Yoho. He was born on November 29, 1870, at Summerfield and spent his early life there. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ina Pennington, with whom he lived and Mrs. Leia Eden of Cauga Lake, Ohio.
