S E 0 NETTE The pastor has announced that Forty Hours devotions will open Sunday, May 26, at 10:45 a. m. Tuesday, May 26, at 10:45 a. m. with a high mass and will close Tuesday, May 28. BY REV. DAVID A. DOAN WHAT IS MEANT BY THE VICTORIOUS LIFE? Romans 8:2-13 The Victorious Life is the opposite of a defeated life, that is, a life that is always able to over come sin through the blood of the Lamb. When we speak of the Victorious Life we do not mean to say that it is a life in which one never sins or fails, but it is a life in which the believer depends entirely upon the Holy Spirit and if he should fall he knows he has an advocate with the Father, even Jesus Christ the righteous (1 John 2:1) and the mo ment he fails he confesses unto God and is cleansed thus goes on his way rejoicing. In this world we are either living a Victorious Life or else a defeated one, foV there is no in between. May we for a few moments look at a few things in the Bible which it tells us go to make a Victorious life. I. A Separated Life—Gal. 1:4 “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from the present evil world, according to the will of God, our Father.” Rom. 12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore, brethern, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be yet transformed by the re newing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and ac ceptable, and perfect, will of God.” I John 2:15-17, “Love not the world, neither the thing that is in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof hut he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.” II. A Christ Centered Life—Col. 3:1-4, “Since ye then are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affec tion on things above not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Phil. 1:21, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” III. A Spirit Filled Life—Eph. 5:18, “And he not drunk with wine wherein is excess but be ye filled with the Spirit.” IV. A Bible Fed Life—Jer. 15:16, “Thy words were found, and I did eat them and they word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of host.” V. A Prayerful Life—Acts 6:4, “But we will give ourselves contin ually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” 1 Thes. 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.” VI. A Peaceful Life—John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Ix*t not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Phil. 4:6-7, “Be care ful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all un derstanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” VII. A Fruitful Life—John 15:8, “Herein is my Father glorfied, that ye bear much fruit.” Gal. 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentle ness, goodness, faith, meekness, tem perance: against such there is no law.” Col. 1:10, “That ye might walk worthy of the I^ord unto all pleas ing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowl edge of God.” Come Caldwell Free Methodist Church Milford S. She carries that life on from generation to generation, and is the indispensable human link between man's yesterdays and his tomorrows. In a large measure she molds the lives and characters of her children. Many great men have attributed their achievements to her, and one of them said, “All that I am and ever hope to be I owe to my angel mother." She is the most sublime and ineffable character in human history. Mothers live closer to God than most other people. In the process of bearing and rearing children in meeting the countless human problems that arise in a home in all her toil and tears and gladness, she realizes better than most of us man's final depend ance upon a higher power. We pay her tribute on this Mother's Day, and lay our hearts at her feet. We love her for herself and all that she is. We love her for her toil and travail and endurance. We love her for her faith, which looks beyond the shadows of life's darkest hour and sees the light of God.
