“THE POWER WE NEED” The world today does not stand in need of more power but rather it needs a means of controlling the phy sical force which has come into its possession. We are afraid that thi tremendous physical force might be used for evil rather than good. But the greatest source of power for the lives of men and society is not the physical, as important as that may be. but the spiritual which comers from God. When a few unknown saw a power controlling the life of a humble teacher of Palestine they asked of Him, Lord, teach us to pray,” for they realized that prayer was the source of Jesus radiant per sonality, loving service, and controll ing power fur noble living in His life. Now “Prayer is the Christian’s vital breath, The Christian’s native air.” And Jesus has told us how to pray. “But, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut the door, pray. .” The meaning of “inner chamber” is “treasury.” Before banks were established, each man had his own strong-room where he stored his wealth and carried on ■his most important business. That is the place of prayer—in the secret place of the home, of business, of the mind. A certain man had kept a pic ture of Christ over his desk, and he said that he never made any import ant business decision with out asking God’s guidance. He would make his treasury a great cathedral of prayer. So mothers and fathers may do with their homes. So the business man may do with his business. So the man may do with the secret place of his thoughts. If we touch God in se cret places of our lives we will be come the masters and not the ser vants of physical power and posess ions. We will construct a home of love and understanding. We will con trol physical force for the good of ourselves, others and for the gloi y of God. “Lord, teach us to pray!” Marriettsville Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Schenk of Akron and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Skin bronzed by sun scorched summers, beard whitened with the hoar frost of country winters. Eyes that glisten as the early morning dew. A smile that glows with kindly light, like the first sliver of the harvest moon. The Farmer one 0/ the giants in the earth! He knows what it is to plant and pray ... to work and hope and trust to scan golden acres without false pride and blighted fields with out bitterness. He knows both victory and defeat but neither vanity nor despair. And when the crops are in the barn—in good years and in poor— he raises thanks to a gracious God, and plans for another spring. The simple, courageous faith of the farmer is the faith of his pioneer fore fathers ... of men who came to these shores to worship God in free dom ... of men who, with ploughs and harrows, carved a nation from a wilderness. Jhe churches of our great, free land that faith is still making giants Christians equal to the challenging problems of modern life.
