Following a short business meet
ing, informal diversions occupied
the afternoon hours. Mrs. C. R. Tip
ton and Mrs. L. E. Freestone pleased
with a vocal duet, with Mrs. Clyde
Tipton at the piano.
A cafeteria dinner was served to

Suffridge-Rich
Mr. and Mrs. Parmer Rich of near
Mt. Ephraim, are announcing the
marriage of their daughter, Jean, to
Robert Suffridge, son of Mrs. Robert
K. Sufridge of Knoxville, Tenn. The
couple were united in marriage in
a candlelight ceremony performed
last Friday evening in William
Street Methodist church, Delaware.
Dr. William F. Quillan, professor of
philosophy at Ohio Wesleyan Uni
versity read the double ring cere
mony.
Miss Ruth Ptak, organist, played
the traditional wedding marches,
and Miss Georgia Bishop sang the
Fhi Gamma Delta sweetheart song.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, wore a
street length pale beige dress with
a pearl neckline and brown acces
sories. Her corsage was of yellow
roses.
Miss Eileen Seabright, maid of
honor, wore a dress of pale blue
wool, and a corsage of red roses.
Merle Lashley, fraternity brother of
the bridegroom, served as best man.
Immediately following the cere
mony, the couple left for a wedding
trip to the Smoky Mountains. Upon
tneir return they will reside at Vet
ville and both will resume their
studies at Ohio Wesleyan University
in September, where they have been
attending summer school. The bride
groom is a member of Phi Gamma
Delta fraternity.
St. Ann’s Guild
St. Ann’s Guild of the St. Phil
omena’s Catholic church, held their
regular monthly meeting on Wed
nesday evening, August 14, at the
Roadside Park, with Mrs. Ignatz
Fox, Mrs. Gertrude Wehr, Mrs.
Henry Schott, Mrs. Albert Crock,
and Mrs .Anna Riski as hostesses.
The business meeting was in charge
of the president, Mrs. T. M. Ehler
mann.

Lawn Party
Mrs. L. E. Freestone and Mrs.
Clyde Tipton, were companion host
esses at a lovely lawn party held
on the lawn of the Freestone home
on Oaklawn Avenue, with members
and guests of the Narcissus club as
guests.

Bridge Party
Mrs. Vernon Archer, West street,
entertained with a bridge party in
honor of Mrs. Frank Lyons, of
Chicago, Illinois, last Thursday
afternoon.

Birthday Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harper en
tertained with a family dinner Sun
day at their home, near Dexter
City, honoring the second birthday
of their daughter, Norma Jean. A
course chicken dinner was served.
A large birthday cake centered the
tcxble. Covers were arranged for
Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Williams, Mr.
and Mrs. Clyde Williams and child
ren, Norma, Mark, Franklin and
Rayfiel, Mr. and Mrs. James Wil
liams, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Harper,
Marion Harper, all of Dexter City.

week at the home of her sister, Mr.
and Mrs. L. E. Potts and family.
Clyde F. Archer, S 1/C, son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Archer, of Plea
sant City route 1, has been honor
ably discharged from the Naval
Separation center, at St. Louis,
Missouri.
Richard McHaffey, of Gratiot, is
spending this week with his aunt,
Mrs. Grace Johnson and daughter,
Helen, Main street.
Mark Warren, of Akron, former
treasurer of Noble county, spent
Saturday and Sunday with his sis
ters, Columbia Shriver and Effie
Warren, Walnut street.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark Jacobs and
son, of Milan, are spending this
week at the home of the former’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roe Jacobs,
Main street.
Mrs. Addie Ogle and daughter,
Bernice, of Akron, called on the
Warren sisters, of Walnut street,
last Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Julia Barger and children,
have returned to their home in New
York, after visiting with the for
mer’s aunt, Mrs. Meribah Beasch
ler, of West street.
Mrs. Abbie Farson is ill at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Glade
Manifold, of Cumberland.

Deaths
JOHN E. WILSON
Last rites for John E. Wilson, who
diea suddenly at the family home on
North Street, last Wednesday eve
ning, was held Sunday afternoon at
2:00 o’clock in the First Methodist
church. Rev. Virgil C. Jump, former
pastor of the local church, and Rev.
Glen M. Warner, present pastor, of
fiicated, followed by burial in the
Olive cemetery, with McVay-Schill
ing funeral home in charge of ar
rangements.
Mr. Wilson had been in declining
health for some time, but his death
w as unexpected at this time. He was
a member of the First Methodist
church, and had served as janitor
of the church building until his
health failed. He had been employed
with the State highway department
and salesman for the Quimby baking
company.
He was a son of the late John
E. Wilson and Clara Baine Wilson
of Cumberland, w’here he spent his
early life.
His wife, Mrs. Grace Fulton Wil
son, survives with a son, John E.
Wilson, III, w’ho recently returned
from overseas duty, and a daughter,
Mrs. Frances Wilson McWilliams. A
sister, Mrs. Frank Deny resides in
Cumberland.

FHELPS REUNION
The annual Phelps reunion will
be held at the road side park, north
of Caldwell on U. S. route 21, Mon
day, Sept. 2. Basket dinner will be
served at noon and a program has
been planned. All members of this
family and their friends are invited.
PHILLIS-STRINGER REUNION
The annual Phillis-Stringer re
union will be held Sunday, Septem
ber 1, at the Dodge Park, Beverly.
Ruby Stringer of Dexter City is the
secretary.
SUMMERS REUNION
The annual reunion of the Sum-,
mers family was held Sunday at the
Pisgah church near Morgantown, W.
Va. This was the first reunion since
the war. The election of officers was
held and the following officers were
elected. President, Frank Summers,
vice president, Katherine Summers,
secretary, Edith Summers, treasurer,
Charles Summers, and historian,
Joseph Summers. Music was fur
nished by the Ice Quartette of Bar
rackville, W. Va., and the Wiles
Hill quartette of Laurel Point choir
of Morgantowm. A talk was made by
Rev. Bow’ly. Readings were given by
Letha Hacker and the history of the
Summers was read by Joseph Sum
mers. The oldest woman member at
tending was Mrs. Fannie Summers
Hershman, 83, and the oldest man
member was E. G. Tarleton, 82, and
the youngest member was Virginia
Styvestant, aged 8 months. Those
coming from the greatest distance
were Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Tarleton,
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tareton and son,
Tommie, Frank Tarleton and son,
Timmie, E. G. Tarleton, and Lou
Tarleton. The reunion will be held
on the second Sunday of August
next year at the Catawba church
near Fairmont, W. Va.
NEW ARRIVALS
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Crum, of
Caldwell route 4, are announcing
the birth of a daughter weighing
6 pounds, 14 ounces, at St. Francks
hospital, Cambridge. The infant has
been named Constance Sophia.

laughter, Thursday, Aug. 22, at
Marietta Memorial hospital. Mr.

of Harriettsville are grandparents.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tilton, south
of Caldwell, are announcing the
birth of a ten pound, six ounce, son,
named Richard Eugene, at St. Fran
cis hospital, Cambridge, August 22.
Mrs. Tilton is the former Aileen
Vaughn and a Noble county deputy
auditor. Mrs. Corwin Vaughn, Mr.
and Mrs. James Tilton, Caldwell,
are the grandparents. Mr. and Mrs.
C. M. Poling, Massillon, are the pa
ternal great grandparents.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McGath, of
Columbus, are announcing the birth
of a son at Mt. Carmel hospital,
named Gregory Bryan. Mrs. McGath
is the former Lydia Hutchins of
Caldwell. Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Hutchins are the maternal grand
parents. Mr. and Mrs. John McGath
oi Markison Ave., Columbus, are the
paternal grandparents.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Horton of
Bethesda, formerly of the Summer
field community, are announcing the
birth of a son at Thompson hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harriman of
Middleburg are announcing the
birth of a son, August 19, at the
Thompson hospital in Caldwell
Mr. and Mrs. Bede Arnold, of
Middleburg, announce the birth of
a son, Thompson hospital, August 22.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker, Cum
berland route 2, announce the birth
of a daughter Sunday at St. Fran
cis hospital, Cambridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold G. Meighen,
Salesville, are the parents of a
daughter born at St Francis hos
pital, Cambridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Ruby, of
Cambridge, are announcing the
birth of a daughter. The couple are
formerly from the Mt. Ephraim
community.
