The need for a ladies auxiliary to the local VFW post has been felt here for sometime. During the busi ness meeting, the ladies voted to meet the second and fourth Monday nights of each month. Presentation of the charter to the newly organized unit will be made at a later date. A number of guests from the Zanesville auxiliary attended the meeting, Thursday evening. They included: Iva Singleton, president of the Zanesville unit, Flossie Ward, secretary, Marie Neff, Bessie Mc Cloe, Lura Vaughn, Myrtle Forshey, Carrie Powell, Joy Powell, Dorothy Powell, Flora Finley, Blanche Bo nisfield, Myrtle Johnstone and Blanche Cain. Miss Anna Horvath, also of Bell aire, accompanied the installing of ficer, Virginia Anderson, to Cald well. It was estimated that over 30 wo men attended this meeting. Attor ney Leo E. CALDWELL, Society For Crippled Chi’dren Planned Here An organization meeting has been called for Thursday evening, Dec. 19, beginning at 7:30 o’clock, for the purpose of organizing a Society for Crippled Children in Noble county. The meeting will be held in the Caldwell high school building. Noble county is one of the few in the state which does not sponsor such a worthwhile organization. In recent years, much legislation has been enacted by the state to aid in caring for crippled children. This term has also been broadened to include practically all types of disability. At the meeting Thursday, a state speaker will be present to address the group, motion pictures will be shown and a local society organized. Representative leaders in the com munity have been invited to meeting. Mincks Participates In “Operation Duck” Clayton L.. Booster Athletic Banquet Well Attended Sponsored by the Caldwell Boos- ter club, over 150 attended the sec ond annual athletic banquet, honor ing the members of the Caldwell high school football team, Thurs day evening at the Methodist church. A course turkey dinner was served by ladies of the church and the pro gram was in charge of L. E. Potts, president of the organization. Principal speaker of the evening was Leonard Barnum, head coach at Marietta college. Coach Gerald Ramsey, coach of the Caldwell high school, also gave a short talk and presented the winners of letters for football during the past season. William Richcreek En Route To Pacific William Richcreek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Richcreek, left Tues day, Dec. 17, from Cleveland for Camp Stoneman, Calif., where he will await shipment overseas to the South Pacific. Richcreek visited with relatives in Caldwell the past week before leav ing for the coast. His father, Lt. Col. Harry G. Richcreek is stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Jerry Weekley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Weekley, Caldwell, has been transfered from Fort Dix to Monmouth, New Jersey. He plans to enjoy a Christmas furlough with relatives here. Fred Cox, grandson of Mrs. Maggie Archer, North street, has been transfered from Camp Polk, La., to Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Jurors Will Be Drawn For January Term The Noble county commissioners of jurors will meet Monday morn ing at the office of Clerk of Courts George L. Thompson for the purpose of drawing jurors for the January term of Common Pleas court. E. O. Bond and J. K. Walkenshaw are members of the commission. Judge L. B. Frazier will preside at the drawing. Both Grand and petit jurors will be drawn at this meeting, which be gins at 10 o’clock. BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Only two games are scheduled in the Noble county basketball league this week, both on Friday, Dec. 20. Summerfield will go to Forest Grove and Harriettsville appears at Bates ville. Friday evening, Dec. 27, Summer field will journey to St. Mary’s for a non league game. AH other teams will lay off due to the holiday season. HELD TO GRAND JURY Elmer Monk, 45, Buffalo, charged with grand larceny in the theft of $30 in cash and a $25 watch from James Dailey, 70, near Old Wash ington, pleaded guilty when ar raigned Saturday before Justice of the Peace William E. Bean and was bound over to the Grand Jury under $1,000 bond. In default he was com mitted to the county jail at Cam bridge. The theft is said to have occurred Thursday night, after the two men had made a rounds of the taverns. RECEIVES HIGHEST AWARD At an open meeting in the Quaker City Christian church, Sunday eve ning, Mac Hughes, Kennon Hunts man and David Joe Pierce were presented the Eagle Award in Scout ing. This is the highest award in scouting. I h*OWTED- one Three Senecaville men and Lore City resident, indicted collect ively by the October grand jury in Guernsey county on charges of threatening Wayland W. Oliver, Senecaville school superintendent and a former resident of Caldwell, were fined $25 and costs each in Common Pleas court by Judge How ard E. Faught Orville and Roy Tipton and Oscar Stobart of Senecaville and Oran Tipton of Lore City pleaded guilty to the charges which were the out growth of a pupil strike at the Sen ecaville school early in October. Judge Faught suspended the fines and assessed costs against the de fendants.
