Page Six MISS McELFRESH WEDS SATURDAY Marriage vows were exchanged by Miss Barbara McElfresh daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kyi McElfresh, of Summerfield rout' and Walter Giywalski, son Mr. and Mrs. George Grywalgk of Ava route, on Saturday, Feb ruary 7. Mayor Homer Johnson offi ciated at the ceremony at 10:0* a. m. in his office in Caldwell. Miss McElfresh attended Sum merfield high school. Mr. Gry walski graduated from Sarahs ville high school and served fou years with the U. S. Navy. Woman's Bible Class Has Meeting At Church The February Meeting of th Woman's Bible Class of the Firs 'Methodist church was held las Thursday evening nn the socie room of the church. The meeting opened with group singing, with Mrs. J. E. Smith at the piano. Twenty-five members answered the roll call by giving a Bible verse. During the business session the group voted to donate $5.00 to the March of Dimes. Mrs. Carl Fink was appointed chair man of the Sunshine Fund. A letter was read from the official board expressing appreciation 1'or the carpet the class bought for the pastor's study, the green room, and the choir room. A bake sale was planned for February 21. Mrs. H. B. Young led the de votional service on the theme: "One Life To Live". An impres sive memorial service for Mrs. Minnie Dientsbach was given by Mrs. Bertha Ullman with Mrs. J. E. Smith at the piano. Mrs. Ed Ball read "Our Mad Moments" and Mrs. Minnie Hed leston read "The Builders''. Mrs. Bertha Ullman gave a humorous version of "We The Women". Refreshments were served by the hostess committee, Mrs. Edna Tarleton. Mrs. Pearl Mc Kee, Mrs. Meribah Beaschler and Mrs. Rosa Stallings. Birthday Party Given For Argyll Leasure, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Argyll Leas ure entertained with a surprise birthday party on Wednesday evening, February 4 at their home in Berne honoring the 11th birthday of their son, Argyll, jr. The evening was spent in con tests and games. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The honored one received many nice and useful gifts. Games and dancing were the diversions of the evening. Deli cious refreshments, featuring a lovely birthday cake were served by the hostesses. Miss Richcreek received many iovely gifts. Linen Shower Given For Dana Turpen Mrs. William Faulkner en-, tertained with a linen shower last Thursday evening at her home on North street, honoring her daugh ter, Mrs. Jess Turpen (nee Dana Faulkner), a November bride. The occasion was also a fare well gesture as Mrs. Turpen and her husband, recently discharg ed from the U. S. Army after two years in the service, will leave this week for Stephen ville, Texas, where they will manage an 800 acre ranch. Movie pictures of the wedding were shown to the guests. Con tests and games were enjoyed in charge of Mrs. Roger King and refreshments were served. Mrs. Turpen received a num ber of lovely gifts from guests present and from a number that were not able to attend. Regular Meeting Held By VFW Auxiliary The ladies auxiliary to VFW Post No. 4721 met Monday even ing in the hall on West street for the February meeting. Mrs. Eva Heppner, president, presided and gave a report on the midwinter conference held re cently in Bellaire. A report on the card party was given by the chairman, Frances Taylor. Delicious refreshments were served to thirty members in the social room at the close of the meeting. Attractive decorations carried out the valentine theme. Hostesses were Mrs. Mildred Hatcher, Mrs. Clyda Moscrip, Mrs. Margaret Brienza, Mrs. Ruth McDonald, Mrs. Audrey Milligan, and Mrs. Greta Locke. Election of officers will be held it the next meeting. Circle No. 1, WSCS, Meets At Knox Home Members of Circle No. 1, W. S. S. of the First Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. •larrv Knox, North street, last Thursday evening. Mrs. Joe Parrish led the de votional services and Mrs. Law rence Nichols gave the study oook chapter review entitled, 'African Heritage". Mrs. James M. Johnson, chair man, presided during the bus iness session. It was voted byi 'he group to donate $10.00 to the vlarch of Dimes campaign and to give a gift to the MYF. Games was the diversion of the evening hours with prizes being won by Bonnie Bates, Judy Bates, Norma Jean Lorey and Mrs. James Rayner. HENRIETTA MILLS Mrs. Henrietta Mijls, widow of Ulysses Mills, and known to her legion of friends as "Aunt Pete", reached her 90th birthday anniversary, Tuesday, at her home on North street. As a surprise feature to the honored guest, "open house" had been planned Tuesday afternoon and evening and the lovable grand old lady greeted many of her friends and life time ac quaintances. New And Different Club Meets At Foster Home The New and Different Club of the Forest Grove community met at the home of Goldie Foster for the January meeting with the day being spent in quilting, bind ing a quilt and embroidering quilt blocks. A potluck dinner was served at noon. The president, Francis Kuntz, presided during the business period. The club prize was won by Lura Ramage and Roberta Big ley received the guest prize. Those present were Frances Kuntz, Lura Ramage, Mina For aker, Ruth Walters, Geneva For aker,Louise Walters, Mabel Wil son, and Edna Foraker. Guests were Etta Burrier, Rob erta Bigley, Clarice Mendenhall, Nadine Wiley and Etta Hooper. The February meeting will be held at the home of Edna For aker. Each member is to bring a valentine for their secret sister, revealing her identity. Despite her advanced years, Mrs. Mills is very agile and in the best of health, other than failing eye sight. She received many beautiful gifts during the day, including flowers, corsages and several birthday cakes. Tea was served by her cousins, Mrs. Florence Mautz and Mrs. Eldon (Rosie) Schafer of Mari etta, in addition to several local hostesses. A daughter of Casper and Eva Krause, pioneer settlers of Mari etta, she was born Feb. 3,1863. At a very early age, she moved to Caldwell with her parents, her father being a well known stone mason. Mr. Krause did all the masonry on the beautiful St. Mary's Catholic church in Fulda and Mrs. Mills said she still num bers a great many in that com munity as her "very dear friends". Mrs. Mills said she remember ed when sh? first came to Cald well that a big fence surrounded the old courthouse with a gate on each corner as an entrance to the lawn. Mrs. Mills is the last, surviving member of her family. Mrs. Hannahs Entertains Berne Homemakers Club Members and guests of the Homemakers Club of the Berne community were entertained by Mrs. Agatha Hannahs at her home on Thursday of last week. The day was spent .quilting on two baby quilts. The club prizes were won by Mrs. Roma Wharton and Mrs. Ruby Leasure. Members present were Mrs. Belle Spence, Mrs. Ruby Leasure, Mrs. Bernetta Sehell, Mrs. Ruth Spenee and Mrs. Roma Wharton. Guests were Mrs. Mae Hannahs Kay Spence. Sewing was the diversion of the all-day meeting with the hostess serving a delicious lunch. Attending were Mrs. William Rucker, Mrs. John Christopher, Mrs. Glen lams, Mrs. Walter Douglass and the hostess. Enid Okey Hostess To Circle No. 3, WSCS Members of Circle No. 3. W. S. C. S. of the First Methodist church met last Tuesday even ing at the home of Mrs. Mary M. Okey, North street with Miss Enid .Okey as hostess. Mrs. Howard Young, vie' president, presided in the absence of the chairman, Mrs. Edna Racey, who has been ill. The meeting was opened with recordings of sacred organ and piano music by Les Barnett. A recording of "The Lord's Prayer was played during the devotional period. Mrs. How ard Young was in charge of the devotionals and' used as he: theme "Ambassadors of Christ Blessed Are the Merciful". Slit also gave the scripture reading Mrs. Ivan Ziler reviewed the study book chapter and gave an article "Methodist Women and Social Drinking". She also read a poem written by Mrs. Minnie Mackie Betts. Miss Enid Okey gave an article on "rules of college girls of 1837" and poems were read by Mrs. Mary M. Okey, Mrs. Young and Mrs. Clifford Keyser. Birthday Anniversaries Observed With Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Herman Muhl bach, Main street, entertained with a dinner in observance i" the birthdays of their son and daughter, which falls on Feb.8 The honored guests were Ken neth Muhlbach and his sister, Mrs. Clinton McEIroy. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Clinton McEIroy, of Lorain. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Muhlbach and spn, Nelson, of Canton, and the host and hostess. INJURED AT WORK"" Miss Estha Cline, 21, Caldwell, received treatment for injury to her left index finger at St. Fran cis hospital, Cambridge, lat Thursday evening. She was in jured while at work at the Cleve land Graphite Bronze plant Caldwell. The trip to the hosp ted was made in the McVay an bulance. At noon a delicious dinner was served. A beautifully decorated cake was the centerpiece of the table. Contests were held with Mrs. Virgil Kirk bride and Mrs. Law-* rence Leasure winning prizes. Mrs. Willard Mallett received the door prize. Piecing a quilt, embroidering doilies and making tea aprons were the projects of the day. Mrs. Lawrence Leasure gave a reading "The Man of Tomor row" and Mrs. Oscar Wells read "To A Butterfly".
