Thursday, October 29, 10i3 -DEATH NOTICES- Edward Sharrock Edward Sharrock, 54, formerly of the Cumberland community, a resident of Cleveland at the time of his death, was killed in a euvo-in accident while em ployed on a construction job in Cleveland Friday. He was well known in Noble county. A native of Byesvilie, he was the son of James and Sophia Rice Sharrock. He was a mem ber of Cumberland Methodist church, and the Masonic and I.O.O.P. lodges there. Survivors include his wife, the former Garnet Gray of Guernsey county, now of Cleve land, eight children, Mrs. Dean Stottsberry of Sarahsville, Mrs. James Franklin of Byesvilie Mrs. Bill Bates of Cambridge, Edward Sharrock of the U. S. Navy, Alfred of Cumberland, Charles of Willoughby, John and Florence of the family home 10 grandchildren seven sisters, in cluding Mrs. Laney Crow of Ava and two brothers. Masonic rites were conducted at the Herlan-McGaughy funeral home. Byesvilie, Monday even ing. Funeral rites were held at the Main Avenue Methodist church, Byesvilie, Tuesday at 2:00 o'clock p. Rev. David Daniel Carmeny, pastor, was of ficiating minister. Burial was in roenwood cemetery, Byesvilie Mrs. Amy Layfield Funeral services for Mrs. Amy Layfield, 36, of Lewisville, were held Sunday afternoon at the home of her grandfather. D. F. Sutder, in that community. The Brubach funeral home ol' Sum merfield was in charge of ar rangements and interment was made in Buckhill Bottom ceme tery. Mrs. Layfield died late Thurs day in University hospital, Co lumbus, where she had been a patient for more than two months. Death followed a ling ering illness. She was the mother of six children, who survive, in addi tion to her mother, Mrs. Nettie Harris of near Sardis and her grandfather. The body remained at the Leslie Carpenter home in Lewis ville until Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. John Leach John Leach, 55, son of Samuel Leach of near Summerfield. was found dead on the street in Zanesville, Tuesday. Muskingum county coroner pronounced death due to a heart attack. He was born Sept. 14, 1898, near Summerfield, a son of Samuel Leach and the late Angelic Carpenter Leach. He spent his early life in the Sum merfield community, served with the army of occupation in World War I and with the army engineers in World War II. Mr. Leach was a resident of Zanes ville at the time of his sudden death and was an oil field work er. lie never married. Surviving are his father, Samuel Leach four brothers: Ace and Arch of Quaker City RFD. Ellis "Pete" Leach of Sum merfield and Barney of Barnes ville three sisters: Mrs. Katie Boyd of Zanesville, Mrs. Har v Miners' Hall—Florence i if iirsii nett carpenter, Uhrichsville and Mrs. Jennie Flood of Quaker City RFD and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the Brubach funeral home. Summer field, where it remained until Wednesday at 5:00 p. m., when it was taken to the home of his father on the Summerfield Batesville road. Funeral ser vices were conducted Thursday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at his father's residence by Rev. Charles Brown and burial was in Calais cemetery. Mrs. Mame Wilson Mrs. Mame D. Wilson, 81, a lifelong resident of Cumberland until four years ago when she moved to the home of her son because of poor health, died early Wednesday morning. She passed away at the home of her son, John Wilson of Wil lard. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church and Cumberland O.E.S. Her husband, William, sur vives, in addition to two sons, John of Willard and Fred of Newark and a grandson. The body was taken to the Tom funeral home, Cumberland, where it remained until Sat urday morning, when funeral services were held at 10:00 a. m. there Rev. E. W. Lodwick and Rev. Allen Reed officiat ed. Burial was in Cumberland cemeterv. Mrs. Daisy Morris Mrs. Daisy Morris, 79, after an illness of three weeks, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Burkhart, Garretts ville. The deceased was a lifelong resident of the Sharon commun ity and was born there March 28, '1874. She was the widow of Leslie Morris, who died two years ago. Following are her survivors Three sons, Raymond of near Caldwell, Russell of Wadsworth and Willis of Windham three daughters, Mrs. Burkhart, Mrs. Bertha Townsend of Beverly and Mrs. Laura Secrest of Hirams burg twin sisters, Mrs. Harriett Smith and Mrs. Sarah Morris both of Zanesville. The body was taken to the McVay funeral home, where funeral services were conducted bv Rev. L. E. Pritchard of the Caldwell First Presbyterian church Wednesday morning at 10:00 a. m. Interment was made in Sharon cemeterv. James E. Crum James E. Crum, 62, of Newark, retired postal clerk and a veter an of World War I, died" last Friday at 5:35 p. m. at Newark hospital. He had been in failing health for the past three years and seriously ill the past six months. He was born November 11, 1890, in Noble county where he spent his early life. He was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Cordelia Warfield Crum. He had lived in Newark more than 35 years where he was employed at the postoffice from 1930 to his retirement in 1952. M., Warren Chapter and Bigelow Council National Federation of Post Office Clerks Disabled American Veterans and the Vet erans of Foreign Wars. Last rites were held on Mon day afternoon at 2:30 at the Criss Brothers funeral home in Newark with Rev. Robert Gaines officiating. Burial was made in the Cedar Hill cemetery in that city. Military rites by the Vet erans of Foreign Wars were con ducted at the grave and Masonic rites were held on Sunday even ing at the funeral home. Charles McBurney Charles McBurney, 78, retired farmer of Senecaville, died at his home Sunday evening, after a long illness. Services were conducted by the Meek funeral home, Seneca ville, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Sylvester Nap per, pastor of Senecaville Wes leyan Methodist church. Burial was in St. Paul's cemetery, Sonora. John Secrest John Secrest, 73, formerly of Pleasant City, was killed instant ly in an accident while at work at Titusville, Fla., where he was employed in a stone quarry. He had resided in Florida for eight years. Survivors include his wife, Carrie Leeper Secrest, to whom he was married in 1945 a sister, Mrs. Charles Messer of Sarahs ville RD and a brother, Frank Secrest of Derwent. Funeral services will be held Friday at Pleasant City Meth odist church at 2:00 o'clock p. m. Burial will be in Pleasant City cemetery by the Corwin funeral home of Cambridge. Lawrence G. Shriver Mrs. M. S. Lavvrence, Quaker City, has been informed of the death of her brother, Lawrence G. Shriver of Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Shriver died suddenly while on a business trip to Poca tilla, Idaho, Oct. 16. The deceased was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Shriver of Dexter City. Mrs. Levi Williams Mrs. Phoebe Williams, 55, of Senecaville, wife of Levi Wil liams, died at the family home there Friday morning. She had suffered n lingering illness. CALDWELL, OHIO iPK*- had resided in Senecaville for the past 15 years. The deceased was a native of Warren township, Guernsey county. Surviving are her husband her step-father, Walter Shears of Marietta two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Gourley of Marietta and Mrs. Katie Sowers of Byesvilie one half-brother and four half-sis ters and three step-sons. Funeral services were conduct ed Sunday at 2:00 o'clock p. m. at the Doudna & McClure funer al home and burial was in Gravel Bank cemetery. Homer L. Long Homer M. Lung, retired mail carrier and native of Noble county, died Saturday afternoon at his home near Salesville, fol lowing a heart attack. He was born in Noble county on January 6. 1876, the son of William and Susan Carpenter Long. Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Clara Dayton of Cambridge and Mrs. Gertrude House of Dover and a nephew, Elvin C. Long of "Cambridge. His wife, ^losa, died in 1932. Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, funeral services were conducted at the Eberle funeral home, Quaker City. Officiating minis ter was Rev. Robert Zinsmeister and burial was in Friends ceme tery. Mrs. Alice Moore Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Moore of near Cumberland, were held Sunday afternoon at the Tom funeral home, Cumberland. Burial was in Cumberland ceme tery. Mrs. Moore passed away early Friday at the home of a son, Myrl Moore of near Cumber land, following a brief illness. She was 73 years of age. She lived her entire life in the Cum berland community where she was a member of the Methodist church. Her husband, Jess Moore died two years ago. She leaves the following: four sons, Myrl, at whose home she died, Harold of Dayton, Alton of Duncan Falls and Chalmer of Zanesville two daughters, Mrs Harry Huhn of near Cumber land and Miss Helen Moore of Zanesville and 13 grandchildren. HOME FROM HOSPITAL Mrs. Harley Crum and infant daughter were removed from the Thompson hospital, Monday afternoon and taken to their home on Crum Ridge in the Mc Vay ambulance. TO GUERNSEY MEMORIAL Mrs. Lola Petlik was taken to Guernsey Memorial hospital, Tuesday evening, in the Estadt ambulance, for treatment and observation. She was taken from the home of her mother, Mrs Lucy Schockling, North street.
