Tvra Page Four a Mrs. Ada Barnett Mrs. Ada Miley Barnett died it 2:20 o'clock Sunday afternoon it Elmhurst rest home at Wester Tille after a lingering illness. Mrs. Barnett was born \n ^oble county, a daughter of Tames and Hattie Morrison Miley. She was a member of the 3t. John's Lutheran church. A •nember of the City Democratic executive board, she was the first woman poll worker in Zanes idlle. Surviving art ft son, three grandchildren, one sister and two brothers. Her husband, Charles, iied in 1940. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the St. John's Lutheran church. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Lucille Wells Miss Lucille Wells, 41, of Miami, Fla., a former resident Df the Stafford community, died Thursday afternoon at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Miss Wells, a native of Staf ford, was born March 14, 1914, i daughter of Ernest Wells, of Caldwell route and the late Mrs. Bertha Wells. She attended Staf ford schools and was a member of the Mt. Tabor Methodist church in Noble county. Surviving are one brother, Harold Wells, of Caldwell route and one sister, Mrs. William Davis, of Columbus, in addition to her father. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Mt. Tabor Meth dist church with Rev. Walter Brown officiating. Burial was nade in the church cemetery. The Mallett funeral home of Stafford, was in charge. Roy H. Morgan Roy H. Whitey" Morgan, 67, iied unexpectedly at 11:30 o'clock Sunday morning at his lome in Pleasant City. He had oeen in ill health for several fears. Mr. Morgan, a son of John and \da Botkir. Morgan, was born it Batesville, Noble county, May LI, 1888. Surviving are a son, Robert, near Lore City three sisters, VIrs. Lulu Curtis, of Ardmore, 3a. Mrs. Kate Shockly, of New ark, and Mrs. Mary Glenn, of Cambridge and two brothers, Fohn and Owen Morgan, of 3uaker City. His wife, Ethel, lied in 1937. Funeral services were held at 1:00 o'clock Wednesday after loon at the Eberle funeral home vith Rev. Robert Zinsmeister jfficiotmg. Burial was made in friends cemetery at Quaker :ity. Mrs. Mary Padgett Guernsey county coroner, Dr. iVilliam Larrick, has given a luicide in the death of Mrs. Mary Padgett, 49, of Byesville, wife a rural mail carrier. She was 'ound dead at her home about i2:45 p. m. Sunday with a bullet vound in the head. Guernsey county sheriff, For est Warden said the woman shot herself in the right temple with a .22 calibre target pistol in the bathroom of the home. A son Norman, who was in the house with his father, Earl, and an uncle, William Selders, heard the shot and discovered the body. The victim was rushed to the Guernsey Memorial hospital at Cambridge but was dead on arrival. Authorities said death occurred almost instantly. The deceased was born in Byesville, May 25, 1906, a daugh ter of Charles and Daisy Green Selders. She was married to Earl Padgett in 1922. Surviving in addition to her husband, are two sons, William of Byesville and Norman of the home, a daughter, Mrs. Arliss McHenry of Indiana, three brothers all of Byesville, and two sisters, !&£rs. Mike Callihan, of Senecaville and Mrs. Gladys Smith, of Springfield, and two grandchildren. Private funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist church in Byesville. Burial was made in Greenwood cemetery. Mrs. Iva S. Maring Mrs. Iva Shadwell Maring, 81, died Friday at 9:45 p. m. in her home at 703 Miller street, Cald well. She had been ill for some time. Born Jan. 16, 1874 in Noble county, she was a daughter of Henry and Rebecca Wishart Shadwell. Her husband, Ulysses Madison Maring, died April 19, 1935. One daughter, Lela Rebecca died in infancy. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Lydia Bruner, of Cambridge three nieces, Mrs. George Sklenar, of Cambridge, Mrs. J. King of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Mrs. Herbert Adams, of Germany. She was a member of the First Methodist church, of Cald well, the Woman's Bible Class, W.S.C.S., W.C.T.U,, Amazon Chapter No. 30, Q.E.S. and the Narcissus club. Funeral services were held on Monday at 2:00 p. m. at the Murphy funeral home with Rev. Floyd Gaugler officiating. Burial was made in Olive cemetery. Mrs. Frances Pyciak Mrs. Frances Pyciak, 76, was found dead in the yard of her home at Florence Addition by neighbors at 1:30 Friday after noon, apparently the victim of a heart attack, although she had been in failing health. She had been receiving treatment from Dr. D. E. Imhoff. Dr. N. S. Reed, Noble county coroner, after conferring with Dr. Imhoff estimated she had died about 8:00 o'clock. Olive Homemakers Club Meets Wednesday The Olive Homemakers club was entertained Wednesday, May 18th in the home of Hattie Van Fleet on Caldwell route 1. The day was spent working on rrafts and a delicious pot luck lunch was served at noon. The club councillors were Lillian Still and Ruth McKit rick and the leaders were Faye Hayes and Martha Watson. A short business session was held in the afternoon at which lime officers for the ensuing year were elected. Those elected were: councillors, Lillian Still and Elsie Smith leaders, Ruth McKitrick and Martha Watson treasurer, Elsie Smith, and secre tary, Mildred Rutherford. Mayor Seamster said that he was governed by Section 45-11 19, which reads in part as fol lows: Whoever violates this section of law shall be fined not more than $500.00 and be impris oned in the county jail or work house not less than three days or more than six months." Mayor Seamster pointed out that no minimum fine was listed. Th bills presented and paid were: Ohio Machinery Company, road and bridge, first payment of bulldozer, $3,159.00 Ohio Machinery Company, road and bridge, trailer, $666.67 Homer Weedon road and bridge, pay roll or employees, $4,278.50 pay £oll of court house em ployees, road and bridge, $266.67 general, $1,020.00 relief, $216.00 Donald Conaway, general, meals, laundry and cleaning of jail, $169.50 Permian Oil and Gas Company, general, gas for jail, $36.68. $28,597.54 In State Funds Received Here Noble county received a checl$ in the amount of $28,592.54 represent state funds, according to Auditor C. R. Atkinson. Auditor Atkinson said that the breakdown of this check was as follows: The local government received $2,592.54 and of this amount, $1,250.00 goes into the township fund and $1,342.54 into the gen eral fund the auto license fund received $20,000 and the town ship gas fund, $6,000. From this $6,000 total, each of the 15 townships in the county will receive $400.00 for road repairs. Harry Hamtum Heads &meri(an Legion Post Harry Hannum was re-elected commander of the American Legion post, No. 641, Belle Valley, Friday evening, at their annual meeting. This will be his second year in this capacity. Other officers named for the coming year included: Vernon Barnhouse, first vice commander John Sklenar, post adjutant Bernard Carnes, fin ance officer Joe Serdy, sergeant at arms Roy Seamster, post service officer Nick Duffalo, his torian and John J. Mizik, post activity. The new officers will be in stalled at a later date. OLYMPIA DATE SET The Zanesville Olympia which is sponsored by the Zanesville Booster club is set this year for September 9. All schools from the Muskingum Valley will par ticipate in this Olympia. Gilbert Weekley, George W. Webb and Coach Billy Jones from Caldwell attended the Olympia meeting which was held Monday evening at the new Lash high school in Zanesville. PROPERTY SELLS Mr. and Mrs. Vere Miller, of Belford street, have purchased the Roy Smith property on North street and possession will be given in September. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are constructing a new home on Park Heights, north of Caldwell. CHILD STRICKEN Eunice Sharon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wikander, of North street, was taken to the Marietta Memorial hospital on Saturday. Sharon is suffering from a liver infection and is re ported as improving. Marietta Memorial Mrs. Arthur Sears, of Coal Run, was admitted to the hospi tal on May 10 and dismissed on May 14. Lawrence Morris, of Macks burg, was admitted May 10 and dismissed the next day. Mrs. Emmett Haga, of DexteP City, was admitted May 10. Mrs. Clara Gordon, of Sarahs ville route 1, was admitted to the hospital on May 10 and dis charged May 12. Taylor Camden, of Sarahsville Was admitted May 11 and dis charged to his home May 16. Nelson Leasure, of Caldwell route 6, was admitted to the hospital, May II and discharged May 13. Alex Dimmerling, retired farmer of the Fulda community, was removed to the Marietta Memorial hospital, Tuesday, in the Estadt ambulance. His con dition is reported to be greatly improved. Mrs. Edna Bird was removed from her home on Caldwell route 6 to the hospital on May 13 in the McVay ambulance. Mrs. Bird is now improving after having her appendi* removed. St. Francis Mike Yarenko, of Ava route 1, was admitted to the hospital on May 10th and underwent sur gery on May 11th. Mrs. Harry Hickle, of Cum berland and Mrs. Ellis Weaver, of Cumberland, were on the dis missal list for May 10th. Audrey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Poulton, of Sum merfield, was dismissed on May 12th. Harry Hickle of Cumberland, was dismissed from the hospital on May 12th. Mrs. William Sparks, of Pleas ant City route 1, v(as admitted to the hospital on ftlay 15th. Bethesda Fred McWilliams, of North street, was dismissed to the hos pital on May 16th for treatment. Emil Hornick, of Ava, was admitted to the hospitital on May 12 and was treated and dismissed the same day. Mrs. Estle Palmer, of Sum merfield, was treated and dis missed on Mav 12. Guernsey Memorial Ancil Say re, of Ava route 1, was admitted to the hospital on May 15th for observation and treatment. The trip was made in the Murphy ambulance. Mrs. Andrew Bates, of tlje Whigville community, was ad mitted to the hospital on Tues day, May 17th and underwent an operation for the removal of her appendix. Driver's Permits Are Issued four Applicants There were four who passed their application test for a driver's license and two who failed, according to a check with the state highway patrol examiner in charge. Those who passed the test, in cluded John Edward Leasure, of Summerfield route Phyllis Mary Leach, of Summerfield Herbert L. Christian, of Byesville and Hopa L. Woodford, of Caldwell route 3. There was one who failed because of infractions at traffic lights and stop signs and the other for failure to park a vehicle. Wesieyan Students Enjoy Tour H. B. Eagon Farm Forty geology students oi' Ohio Wesieyan University visited the Herbert B. Eagon farm in Dela ware county to get a better understanding of applied soil and water conservation practices. Six of the class were raised on farms but for several of the city-born students it was their first opportunity to visit a farm. The students were conducted on a tour of the Eagon farm by Gerald Solt, of the Soil Con servation Service. Mr. Eagon is a former well known resident of Beaver town ship and resided in Noble county until moving to Delaware. rr Around the Clock" Patrol Is Planned "Around the clock" patrol will be maintained in Noble county for the Memorial Day weekend, according to an announcement made today by Sheriff Donald Conaway. The energetic sheriff, whose middle name should be "law enforcement," will be assisted toy three special deputies, who will be patrolling the main highways. Sheriff Conaway said the patrol would begin on Friday, May 28 and continue thru-out the weekend ending on Monday night, May 30. Memorial Day weekend is predicted to be a tragic one fair many motorists and Sheriff Conaway intends to see that death at least takes a vacation in this county.
