O N E 9 8 Approximately 200 Guests And Visitors Attend Annual inspection of Eastern Stars The 61st annual inspection of Amazon Chapter No. 30, Order of Eastern Star was held Thursday evening, Maj 12th in the Masonic Temple with the deputy grand matron of district 15, Mrs Bertha Frieden of the Clarington chapter serving as the inspect ing officer. A dinner was served in the dining room of the Fkst Methodist church at 6:00 o'clock p. m. The tables were decorated with a profusion of white flow ers, yellow tulips accented with orchid iris, surrounded by greenery and tall yellow tapers, thus carrying out the theme of the yea^, "Sunshine To Others." Worthy Matron Sarah Nichols and Worthy Patron V/alter Brown led the corps of officers into the chapter room for the inspection at 8:00 o'clock. The room was highlighted with vases of yellow roses, iris and tulips with accents of white and orchid, thus making a beautiful spring setting. Special music was presented by the Amazon Chapter chorus, under the direction of Gray Tucke, music supervisor of the Caldwell schools. The chorus is composed of: Bernice Mills, chairman Mary Morgareidge, Florence Archer, Ruth Knox, Roberta Daugherty, Mary Secrest, Opal Brumbach, Susabelle McVay, Alice Guiler, Grace Henderson, Marylois Barnhart, Beverly Ralston, Mary Jane Yontz, Clyta Young, Ada Musser, Sarah Caldwell, Pearl Morgareidge, Eleanor Hayes, etty Murphy, Twila Ball, Bea arkins, and Esther Kegg. Their (lection was "In The Garden." Susabelle McVay sang "The unshine of Your Smile" during Me initiatory work. Distinguished guests of the evening were: Grand Martha of the grand chapter of Ohio, Florence Derry, of Barnesville deputy grand matrons, Beulah Kirkland, of Cadiz, of the 14th district and Virginia Long, Macksburg, of the 25th district grand representative of Utah, Muriel Wehr, of Barnesville grand representative of Nova Scotia, Frances Scatterday, of Centerville grand representative of Arkansas, Kathleen Abel, of Malta members of the grand chapter chorus: Virginia Stocks, worthy matron, of Marietta Mary Secrest and Nelle Startz man, of Caldwell and president of district No. 15, Erma Ellis, of Cumberland. Refreshments were served by the committee at a beautifully decorated table centered with an arrangement of crystal candela bras and yellow roses to 104 members of the local chapter and 87 visitors from Cambridge, Stockport, Barnesville, Macks burg, New Straitsville, Urbana, Quaker City, Beverly, Summer field, Cadiz, i Woodsfield, Clar ington, Marietta. Frances McWilliams Hosless To Grand Slam Bridge Club Mrs. Frances McWilliams en tertained the Grand Slam Bridge club recently at her home on Lewis street. Two tables of bridge were put into play with Thelma Moore, Thelma Estadt and Mildred Buckey receiving the prizes. Snack refreshments were ser ved by the hostess to the fol lowing: Pat Vo-gel, Rosemary Wilson, Pauline Robey, Thelma Moore, Thelma Estadt, Mildred Buckey, Vera Long and Ruth Merry. Wheeler Bible Class Holds Annual Banquet The Wheeler Bible rlass of the First Baptist church held their annual Mother-Daughter banquet Tuesday evening in the church social rooms. A delicious dinner was served from a table which was beauti fully decorated. The table de corations carried out the "old oaken bucket" theme. Yellow and orchid were the predominat ing colors in the scheme with spring flowers and candles com pleting the decorations. Members of the 1955 graduat ing class who attend the church were guests. They are: :Jim Fin ley, Ted Finley, Patsy Lowers, Margaret Ickes, Neil Day and Larry Brown. Following the dinner, a very nice program was presented. It consisted of the following: group singing: prayer by B. B. Wheel er, teacher of the class welcome by Mrs. Harry Colley, president of the class response by Miss Arlene Morris scripture read ing by Mrs. Charles Milligan a duet by Mrs. John Morris and Arlene a memorial to Mrs. Ethel Clark by Mrs. Edna Wehr poems by a number of the mem bers a short skit by Mrs. Roy Wikander with several of the young people participating and the program closed with group singing. A short program, consisting of readings and songs, was present ed honoring the members' moth ers, who were guests. At the close of the program, delicious refreshments were ser ved in the church dining room. The refreshment table was decorated in a scheme of green and yellow with lighted tapers. An arrangement of yellow roses centered the table. Miniature vases with a rosebud were used at each place as favors. Those attending were: Lydia and Esther McElroy, Ruth Ann nnd Alice Phelps, Sara, Sammy and Kathleen Buckey, Larry Rossiter and Etta Rayner, Diana and Sandra Lapp, Marvin and Dorothy Hawley, Susie Hayes, Judy Rayner, Ila Dunlap, Peggy Ellison and Margaret Clark Good Neighbors Club Holds May Meeting The May meeting of the Good Neighbors club was held last week in the home of Mrs. Bettie Wilson on Caldwell route 6. The day was spent quilting and preparing materials for rug making. A delicious hinch was enjoyed at noon. A short business session was held in the afternoon with the president, Roberta Bigley in charge. Mabel Wilson and Phenia Big ley received birthday gifts. Members present were: Ruth Lawrence, Doris Ramsey, Mar tha Parrish, Roberta Bigley, Juanita Ramsey, Lois Blake, Mabel Wilson, Bettie Wilson Clarice Mendenhall, Jean Ram sey, Ethel lams, Alta lams, Phenia Bigley, Pearl Elliott and guests were: Anna Lowman, Sciesta Kuntz, Mabel Wilson, Jr., Gene via Foraker, Candace Wil son, Roberta and David Ramsey, Robert Blake, Jerry Ramsey, and Terry Wilson. The next meeting will be held June 1 in the home of Mrs. Doris Ramsey. lams-Woodford Circle Meets In Moore Home The lams-Woodford Circle of the First Presbyterian church was entertained last Tuesday evening in the home of Mrs. Jessie Moore on Fairground street with Mary Jo Heddleson and Ethel Starr serving as com panion hostesses. The devotional service the business meeting were tft the charge of Mary lams. A very interesting program on the book of "Hebrews" was pre sented by Miss Lena Mills, a guest. The book of "India" was pre sented by Mary Lou Miller. Homebuilders Class Holds May Meeting The Homebuilders class of the First Methodist church held their regular meeting, Monday evening in the church dining room. A pot luck dinner was served at 6:$0 o'clock p. m. with Mr. and Mrs. James Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Parrish serving as hosts. The president, Hope Webster, conducted a short business meet ing. Arlne Henderson and Grace Brumbach presented a panto mine Darrel Buckey led the de votional service Genenieve Mc Diffitt and Martha Gaugler sang a duet and the meeting closed with group singing with Martha Gaugler at the piano. Cora Leland Class Meets Friday Evening The Cora Leland class of the First Presbyterian church met Friday evening in the home of Mrs. Robert Davis on Walnut street with Adaline McKee as companion hostess. A short business session was held after which dainty refresh ments were served by the host esses. SPECIAL MEETING The Caldwell Mother's club held a special meeting Tuesday evening in the home of Kathleen Hupp in Bronze Heights at Which time they decided to donate $100.00 to the Community Park fund. Tea Held Sunday Afternoon The Caldwell Business and Professional Women's club enter tained Sunday afternoon with a four o'clock tea in the grade school cafeteria honoring the Noble county girl graduates and their mothers. The cafeteria was beautifully decorated with blue and white streamers and a number of arrangements of spring flowers. The decorating was done by the Junior class of Caldwell high A short program was present ed, including the following: a solo by Miss Karen Colley and a vocal number by the Amazon Chapter No. 30, O. E. S. chorus with Mrs. Nelle Startzman at the piano short talks by the club president, Mrs. Jean Hes son, Betty Murphy and Marlene Wells. Tea was served from a table attractively decorated in the spring motif. There's a difference between good sound reasons and reasons that sound good. f] V 4 Thursday, May T9, 1953 Harper-Hayes Circle Meets In Corwin Home The Harpex -Hayes Circle of the First Presbyterian church met Tuesday, May 10th in the home of Mabel Corwin on North street with Stella Sanford serving as companion hostess. The circle chairman, Gertrude Harper, conducted a short busi ness session. A play explaining the health education and churches of India was presented under the direc tion of Anita Manson. The cast included Natalie Dahodd, Alice Davis, Anita Manson and Roberta Daugherty. Dutting the social hour a mem ory game was played with Anita Manson and Frankie Love re ceiving the prizes. Refreshments were served to the following: Ethel Caldwell, Natalie Dahood, Alice Davis, Gertrude Harper, Glenna Hayes, Frankie Love, Leona Nichols, Mary Young, Anita Manson, Roberta Daugherty and the hostesses. H. T. H. Club Enjoys Spring Bridge Luncheon Mrs. N. S. Reed entertained members of the H.T.H. bridge club with a 12 o'clock spring luncheon at Ogle's Maple Shade Inn, Dexter City, Tuesday.
