Willscreek WILLSCHEEK We had a regular cloud burst here last Saturday. Sam Leach said he had never seen his run that high. Our run also was the highest we have ever seen it. Washed the fences all away. Corn fields and hay were in the bottoms. Mrs. Harry Woodard, former lly Mary McAtee, Mrs. John Yoho and daughter, Miss Imo Yoho were social callers here last Saturday. Imo is deputy sur veyor in Noble county. Harry and Swazy Dotson, for merally of Summerfield, were also visitors here last Saturday. Harry taught school for 50 years. Earl Moore took a load of hogs to the Barnesville sales, Satur day. We have hay cut ten days and not up yet. This is the worst spring and summer we have ever seen on the creek. Mrs. Robert Roe was a visitor at John Bates' last Friday. Bobby Wyscarver has bought a new farm tractor. James Wyscarver was on the creek, Saturday, bailing hay. Denver Moore and Harry Stotts of Canton, were home the weekend. They seem to think there will be a strike in the steel industry the first of July. If wages gets much higher I don't see how us, farmers, are going to be able to buy what machin ery we have to have. We can't hire anybody to work on the farm so we have to use machin ery to do it. As wages go up a little machinery goes twice as much. The first mowing machine I bought cost $45.00, now they are five times that high and pro bably not as good. I used mine 20 years. Edgar Bates and wife of Belle Valley, were welcome visitors here last Sunday. Edgar is son of Pete Bates of Renrock. Norman Black and wife, of Texas, arrived here last Friday Norman returned to Texas Sun day but his wife, the former Leana Smith, will remain for a two weeks visit. Mary Ann, Tommie and Timmie and Mrs. Nancy Meighen visited Wednesday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jav Cale. i 2 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Helpful Hints On Your Income Tax Nathaniel Looker, Director of Internal Revenue for the Colum bus, Ohio District, announced today that he now has available a supply of the Form to be used by farmers to claim refunds of the Federal tax paid on gasoline and certain other fuels. The of ficial Form 2240 may be obtained by writing or calling the direc tor's office at 110 West Long street, Columbus 15, Ohio. They may also be obtained through local county agricultural agents and at many banks and post of fices in the district. The public law authorizing this refund was approved by the President on April 2, 1956. Mr. Looker advised farmers of this area to file their claim with his office after June 30th. Claim is to be made for taxes paid on gas purchased and used for farming purposes between Jan uary 1 and June 30. The claim must be filed before October 1. The director cautioned farm ers to read carefully the instruc tions on the Form 2240 before filing and advised them to keep sufficient records to permit veri fication of the amount claimed. Mr. Looker pointed out that the new law authorizing this re fund provides a penalty equal to twice the amount of an exces sive claim, with a minimum pen alt y of $10 ]rov*ur(I. Family Reunions... Two hymns were sang to open the meeting followed with scrip ture by president, Mrs. Marie Mercer offered prayer then read a children's day story. Mrs. Lois Gress gave the memory verse. Mrs. Mazel Watkins and Mrs. Marie Hannum were class mem bers celebrating birthdays in June, also Mrs. Frances Buckey who recently moved to Middle boro, Ky. Various projects were discuss ed during the meeting before closing with the league bene diction. Mrs. Mona Eddy was in charge of the program as follows, two numbers by a trio composed of Litazella Huff, Tommy Gress and Donna Landefeld accom panied by Gay Hively at the piano. Miss Hively also gave a reading. Mrs. Norene Hively had the contests with Mrs. Erma Williams and Lois Gress prize winners. A lunch was served in the dining room by the hostesses Mesdames Erma, Carol and Fern Williams and Dorothy Winland to the following members pres ent, Hazel Watkins, Marie Mer cer, Sue Faught, Beulah Gander, Ester Kackley, Helen and Betty Miley, Mona Eddy Marie Han num, Margaret Beebe, Minnie Seerest, Pearl Sprout, Lois Gress, Norene Hively. The day was spent in knotting a comfort and at noon a cafe teria dinner was served to the following present, Mesdames Edna Johnson, Ava Groves, Min nie Seerest, Ida Bailey, Norene Hively, Helen Seerest, Florence Larrick, Clar Cunningham, Cora Nicholson, Ruby Seerest and hostess. Mrs. Minnie Seerest was the prize winner. The next meeting will be their annual picnic at Mt Zion on Sunday evening, July 8th. Each member is asked to bring a covered dish.
