Noble County Board of Education c. Ctark 12 13 J. -Sermoneiie- The Anger of God We speak much about the love of God, and that "God is love," but we conveniently* forget that God does become angry. Thus He becomes an angry God. God is love, but He also becomes angry. To appreciate the love of God, we must consider His anger. The living, almighty God has established laws or rules for men to live by. They are holy laws—laws that reveal God's character laws that are for man's -welfare. Those laws are intended for man's happiness and his moral, spiritual, social and physical well-beinpr. But man's heart "is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9). "There is none righteous, no, not one," "all come short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:10, 23). Man chooses to disobey God's holy law. He chooses to live his own life, ignoring God as much as is con venient.. So being holy, righteous and just, God becomes angry at sin. The Scriptures tell us who will experience the anger of God. The wicked (Psalm 7:11 21:8, 9 Romans 1:18 Ephes ians 5:6. Those who forsake God (Ezra 8:22 Isaiah 1:4). Those who live in unbelief, re fusing to commit their lives to God, refusing to accept His word as revealed in the Scriptures and in the person and work of Jesus Christ (Psalm 78:21, 22 He brews 3:18, 19 John 3:36). The impentitent (Proverbs 1:30, 31 Isaiah 9:13, 14' Romans 2:5). The apostate. (Hebrews 10:26, 27). Those who practice idolatry (Deuteronomy 29:20, 26-28 Jere miah 44:3). Even a Christian with unconfessed sin in his life will experience the anger of God, yet we are told that it will be tempered with mercy (Psalm 30:5 Isaiah 54:8 57: 15, 16 Jeremiah 30:11). (God's dealings with the saints of the New Testament are the same in prin ciple as His dealings with the saints of the Old Testament.) The anger of God will be manifested in judgments and afflictions (Psalm 78:59-51 Isaiah 9:19 Jeremiah 7:20 Ezekiel 7:9 Hebrews 3:17), and terrors (Exodus 14:24 Psalm 76:6-8 Jeremiah 10:10 Lamenta tions 2:20-22 Revelation, chap ters 5-20). The Scriptures tell us that "the Lord is slow to anger, (Psalm 103:8: Nalium 1:3). He is patient. He gives men the opportunity to repent. We also learn that He is righteous. He gives men the opportunity to know His will. He plays no favorites (Romans 2:2-8 Revela tion 16:6, 7). Yet man has re vealed himself as portrayed in Romans 1:19-32. Naturally the question arises, "How shall we escape God's anger? Though God is capable of being angry, He is also desir ous of extending grace and mercy, so we learn that He has made provision for man to be delivered from His anger. First, Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, has fully satisfied the re quirements of the Holy Law on our behalf. He obeyed it fully in His life on earth He paid the penalty (death on the cross) of the law in our stead (Luke 2:11, 14 Romans 5:9 II Corinthians 5:18, 19 Ephesians 2:14, 17 Colossians 1:20 I Thossalonians 1:10) Second, the one wanting to be free from God's anger must accept God's will for his life, letting Jesus Christ become his Lord (John 3:14-18 Romans 3:25 5:1) If one is a Christian and is being chastened for sin in his 'life, he must repent and confess (I John 1:9). Why not accept of God's grace and mercy rather than be subject to His anger? Roy E. Wikandtff ROAD PETITION The Noble County Commissioners have received a petition from petition ers residing in the vicinity of the pro posed improvement described below, in which they respectfully represent that the public convenience and welfare require the establishment of a public road, beginning At a point in the Center of State Route 78. said point being approximate ly one-half mile Northeast ol' the in tersection of State Route 78 and Noble County and Morgan County boundary line, and running in a South Easterly direction approximately .66 of a mile to the residence of Ada Hill, all in Sec tion, 3 Sharon Township.
