Page IMgfrf Miss Shirley Wells Weds David L. Long In Methodist Church Miss Shirley Maxine Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bearl Harding, of Norwich, exchanged nuptial vows with David L. Long, son of Leonard L. Long, of Cald well, and Mrs. Vera Keen, of Danville. Ky., in a ceremony Thursday evening, March 20 at 7:00 q'clock in the First Meth odist church in Caldwell. The Rev. E. Parker West, church pastor, officiated at the double ring ceremony in the presence of a few relatives and friends. The bride was attired in a light blue frock with black accessories and a corsage of pink carnations was pinned to her shoulderline. Miss Jean Allen served as maid of honor and was attired in a brown dress with white accessories. A corsage of white carnations was pinned to her shoulderline. Noble Rumuier served as Mr. Long's best man. The bride's mother was attired in a navy blue frock with match ing accessories and Mrs. Long also wore navy with matching accessories. The new Mrs. Long is a grad uate of Chandlersville high school with the class of 1956 and was formerly employed with the March Electric Co. in Cambridge. Mr. Long is a 1957 graduate of Caldwell high school and is em ployed by the Cheek Construc tion Company in Danville, Ky The couple will be leaving soon to make their home in Dan ville, Ky. Mrs. Jack Leasure Feted With Shower Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Stewart, of Caldwell route, entertained Fri day evening, March 21 with a pink and blue shower honorins their daughter, Mrs. Jack Leasure, of Lewisville route 1. The honored one received a number of nice gifts. DRESSES $7.98 lobe E. Johnsons' To Celebrate 50th Anniversary, Sunday up Mr. and Mrs. To be E. Johnson, of Pleasant City route 2, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Sunday, March 30 with "open house." Friends, rel atives and neighbors are invited to call at the Johnson home from 2:00 until 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon and from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock in the evening. The couple was married in Pleasant City on March 29, 1908 by the Rev. Moody Nicholson, uncle of the bride, who is the fcrmer Edna Frances Nicholson. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are the parents of two sons, Roy John son, of Zanesville, and Hobart Johnson, who died in 1951. They have two granddaughters, Mrs. Bernard Murphy and Miss Jac queline Johnson, of Zanesville. The Johnsons started their married life in Cumberland where Mr. Johnson was engaged in farming. In 1924, they moved to Pleasant City where they still reside. Mrs. Johnson was 70 years old in February and her husband will reach that age in September. Both are in good health. Bettingers Observe 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mis. Ah-x Bettinger, of Middleburg, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by holding "open house" on Sun day, March 23. The couple was united in marriage on March 25, 1908. A family dinner was served at noon. The table was attractively centered with a three-tiered cake topped with miniature bride and bridegroom. Those present were: Jessie Bettinger, of Caldwell Minnie Smith and Emil Shaw, of Mari etta Mr. and Mrs. Francis Thompson, of Caldwell route 4 Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bettinger, of Ava route 1 Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bettinger, of Sarahsville Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gildow, of Dexter City route 2 Mrs. Beulah Hesson and Debby Wolford, of Macks burg and the honored couple. Due to illness, three of the couple's children were unable to be present. They are Gay Bettinger, Mrs. Helen Cozzens and Mrs. Kathleen McCool. Archer, of Caldwell route 1, are announcing the engagement and approach ing marriage of their youngest daughter, Lucy Marie to Cletus F. Dick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dick, of Lewisville route 1. Miss Archer graduated from Caldwell high school and is em ployed as a waitress at the S. S. Kresge Co. in Marietta. Mr. Dick graduated from Lewisvjlle hi^h school and is employed for H. F. McGraw and Company in Clarington. The wedding will be an event of Saturday, May 3 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Fulda. Women's Missionary Society Meets Tuesday The Women's Missionary Soc iety of the First Church of Christ met Tuesday evening, March 25 at the home of Mrs. Janice Brandon, North street. The opening song was "In the Garden" followed by prayer led by Faye Hayes. The lesson topic was 4What Shall I Give." The scripture and devotionals were led by Rhea Elliott and the lesson discussed was conducted toy Jessie Elliott. Josephine Carter read the psalrn "Take My Life and Let It Be." "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung by Susabelle McVay and Faye Hayes. Irene DeVolld conducted a brief business meeting. Those present in addition to the above^ mentioned were: Frela Harmon, Laura Ramsey, Anna Cleary, Hattie VanFleet, Mabel Gordon, Lillian Harkins, Gladys DeVolld, Doris Ramsey, Goldie Brown and one guest, Phenia Bigley. The meeting was presided over by the vice president, Mrs. Davis. A pot luck lunch was served at noon. The guess what prize was won by Ethel Harper and other prizes were won by Isabel Dowling, Mary Agnes Saling, Caroline Wilson, and Beulah Pryor. Those present were: Fannie Woodford, Neva Swain, Lucille Stewart, Mary Harper, Belva Landaker, Beulah Pryor, Ethel Harper, Mary Agnes Crock, Isabel Dowling, Elva Brown and the hostess. Mary Davis was a guest in addition to three chil dren. The next meeting will be held Thursday, April 17 in the home of Mrs. Beulah Pryor. Brookfield Buckeye Lassies Hold Meeting The first meeting of the Brook field Buckeye Lassies Four-H club was held last Wednesday evening. Officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows: presi dent, Sue Phipps vice president. Ruby Merry, president, con ducted the meeting and the les son for the day was on "sewinj machine attachments." A pot luck lunch was enjoyec at noon by the following: Rub] Merry, Nellie Merry, Mary Merry, Gladys DeVolld, Velm Wickham, Lail Gill, Lavonnii Whitcomb, Rhea Elliott, El$ie Smith and the hostess. The club voted to hold no meeting in April due to the annual Achievement Day pro gram. Friendly Neighbors Club Holds Meeting In Winnie Slater Home The March meeting of the Friendly Neighbors club was re cently held in the home of Mrs. Winnie Slater, near Keithtown. Quilting was the project for the day and a delicious lunch was served at noon to 12 mem bers and 11 guests. The club prize was won by Edna Garvin. Grace Radcliff received the guest prize and Wilma Waller, the guess what prize. Plans were made to hold the next meeting in the home of Dorsa Morris. Members present were: Lola Mitchell, Nora Hughes, Kate Hale, Wilma Waller, Joanne Han son, Doris Edwards, Olive Chand ler, Cleo Briggs, Dorsa Morris, Blanche Woodford, Edna Garvin and the hostess. Grace Radcliff and Oma Groves. 95th Birthday Celebrated By Mrs. Maud Jennings Mrs. Maud Jennings, a life long resident of the Sharon com munity, recently celebrated her &5th birthday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Hana walt, 1740 E. Kenworth* Road in Columbus. The day was spent in fellow ship with a number oi relatives and friends. Good Neighbors Club Meets In Boyd Home The 'Good Neighbors club Of Sharon recently met in the home of Mrs. Belle Boyd with 1^ members answering the roll call. The day was spent in piecing quilt blocks and tying a comfort. A delicious pot luck lunch was served at noon. The president, Ruth Wells, had charge of the business meet ing. A contribution was voted to the Red Cross. Laura Ramsey received the guessing prize Flor ence Parrish, the guest prize and Juanita Ramsey, the club prize. Members present were: Alta lams, Ruth Lawrence, Pearl Elliott, Lois Blake, Mabel Wil son, Jean Ramsey, Doris Ram sey, Ruth Wells, Phenia Bigley, Effie Ramsey, Roberta Bigley, Juanita Ramsey and the hostess. Holds March Meeting Amazon Chapter Nu. 30, Order of Eastern Star held their March meeting Tuesday evening in the Masonic Temple on Main street Worthy Matron Rama Steen presided at the meeting, at which time initiation of candidates was held. Five guests from the Massillon Chapter, O. E. S. were present including the worthy matron of that chapter. As a part of the evening's pro gram, John Kirchner and Mary Seerest favored with a vocal duet, accompanied by Nancy Rudge. Delicious refreshments were served at the close of the meet ing by the committee with Ethel Caldwell as chairman. Miss Ruth Green Engaged To Wed MISS CLARA RUTH GREEN Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Green of Caldwell route, are announc ing the engagement of their daughter, Clara Ruth to Charles Edward Henry, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Wharton, of Summer field, and Walter Henry, ot Sarahsville. Miss Green is a student at the Caldwell high school. Mr. Henry is a graduate of Summerfield high school and is now serving in the U. S. Army at Fort Bragg, N. C. Wedding plans are incomplete. Wheeler Bible Class Meeting Held Thursday The Wheeler Bible class of the First Baptist church was entertained last Thursday even ing in the home of Mrs. Charles Milligan on North street. Mrs. Milligan opened the meet ing with prayer. Mrs. Henry Simonton and Mrs. Carrie R-rd had charge of the devotional service and program. The theme for the evening was "He Knows and He Cares." A brief business session was conducted by the president, Mrs. Harry Colley. The remainder of the evening was spent in sewing on qui it blocks and delicious refresh ments were served by the host ess, assisted by her daughter. Rebecca. Those present were: Rev. and Mrs. E. Parker West, Mr. and Mis. Merle Barnhart and chil dren,'xMr. and Mrs. Ortan Lantz, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Rudge. James Johnson, Helen Pezzopane and Sarah Caldwell. The next meeting will be April 18, with a pot Tuck dinner at 6:30 p. m. in the church din ing room. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Barnhart will provide the enter tainment and Dr. and Mrs. Robert Rudge will show a film. Brownie Scout Troop Meets Thursday P. M. The Caldwell Brownie Scout troop met in regular session Thursday, March 20 in the First Presbyterian church basement with the co-leaders, Ethel Moore and Joan Hickman in charge. The meeting was opened by the president, Carol Johnson, with the presentation of the colors and pledge to the flag. A 45-minute period of games, contests and exercises were en joyed after which refreshments were served to 15 members. The meeting closed with the retiring of the colors and the Brownie Scout Circle. The troop will meet again on Thursday, March 27 at 3:30 p. m. in the First Presbyterian church basement. Election of officers will be held at this meeting. Ava W. C. T. U. Meets In Methodist Church The Ava W.C.T.U. met last Friday evening in the Methodist church dining room with 17 members in attendance. The meeting opened with group singing and prayer led by Bessie Daw. Etta Rayner was in charge of the devotional service, using as her topic, "Highway of Information." A short business meeting was conducted by the president. A number oi brochures were dis tributedL Plans were made to meet again on Friday, April 18 with Esther McElroy and Lydia Sorg as hostesses. The closing prayer was led by Lucille Hall. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses. Bessie Daw received the door prize. Pioneer Girls Hold Regular Meeting In First Baptist Church The Pioneer Girls, of Caldwell, held their weekly meeting in the First Baptist church of Cald well, with Martha Patten and Nancy Ramage in charge. The meeting was opened with praper by Mrs. Patten. Each column went into "Column Council" where each column held their devotions. The "Trailmakers" column had 12 girls present while the "Brave Girls" column had 15 girls present. Several girls passed a part of their first achievement. "Catch-up" was called and the girls sang their theme song. The girls worked on their handwork for a period and then the girls had "Bible Explora tion." Refreshments were furnished by Mrs. Fowler. Victory Bridge Club Plans Thursday Eve. Mrs. Ruth Evilsizer enter tained the Victory Bridge clnb Thursday evening, March 20 at her home on Spruce street. The home was attractively decorated in keeping with the St. Patrick's Day theme. A dessert course was served by the hostess to the following members: Inez and Louise Clark, Hattie Wiley, Mary Seherr, Dorothy Dyer, Sylvia Bryan, Mary Sanford, Lulu McDonald, Ada Ackley, Olive Groves and guests, Mary Richcreek and Thelma Rice. Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Tarleton, is quite active and en joys very good health. She lives alone and does all of her own housework. She is a life-long member of the Methodist church and is quite interested in current events. Mrs. Tarleton is the mother of four sons: Harry Tarleton, of Columbus Earl Tarleton, of Marysville Frank and Howard Tarleton, of Caldwell. One daughter, Mrs. Faye Roberts, is deceased. She also has 11 grand children and 18 great-grand children. Friends are quite welcome to call on Mrs. Tarleton at her home on either Sunday, March 30 or on her birthday, April 1. Caldwell W. c7 T.~U. Meets In Groves Home Mrs. Mattie Groves was host ess Friday, March 21 to members of the Caldwell W.C.T.U. at her home on Belford street. Mrs. Ola Shafer, president, conducted the meeting. Mrs. Norma Miller led the worship service and the program was presented by Mrs. Billa Patter son, who gave a drill on "Parlia mentary Law." Mrs. H. A. Guiler favored with a vocal solo and articles were read by Mrs. Jessie Young and Mrs. Edna Racey. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting by the hostess.
