Ephraim with a pink and blue shower in honor of Mrs. Bill Franklin, nee Linda Moore, and son. Allan. Gifts were placed in a lovely decorated bassinet. Contest prizes were won by Mrs. Bud Rich ar Mrs. Bill Caddock with the door prize going to Mrs. Clarence Moore. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses. Mrs. Cleo Briggs Fetes Friendly Neighbors Club Members of the Friendly Neighbors club met at the home of Cleo Briggs for their March meeting. The day was spent quilting and sewing rug rags. The club prize went to Winnie Slater. The guessing prizes were awarded to Doris Edwards and Edna Garvin. Eleanore Briggs won the guest prize. Easter baskets were presented to the children. At noon, a delicious dinner was served to Edith Chandler, Doris Edwards, Edna Garvin, Kate Hale, Joanne Hanson, Winnie Slater, Jessie Swank, Wilma Waller, Mareeda Willey, Blanche Woodford, Elea nore Briggs, Polly Hanson, Elaine Briggs, Pam and Doug Edwards. The April meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Doris Ed wards. Miss Rossiter is a 1956 grad uate of Harriettsville high school and is employed in Marietta. Mr. Gildow graduated from Harriettsville high school with the class of 1953 and is employed at Brickwede Furniture Co., Marietta. Wedding plans are incomplete. Presbyterian Circle Meets In Harper Home Members of Circle No. 2 of the Presbyterian church met Thursday at the home of Gert rude Harper, West street. Mrs. Mildred Eastman served as com panion hostess. The meeting was opened with the Lord's Prayer by Twila Ball. She also gave a reading on "The Sureness Within," and a study book on "Spirits Speak to the Church." Mary Sanford gave a studybook on "Our Community Circles." During the social hour, Mrs. Harper read a humorous article. "Get Yourself Cliniced." Dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. William T. Johnson, of Newcomerstown, Mr. and Mrs Jack Johnson, the host, hostess and honored one. A beautiful decorated three tiered birthday cake centered the table. Additional guests in the even ing were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Johnson adn children, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson and chil dren, Bonnie and Gregg John son. The honored one received many nice gifts. Wonder What Club Holds Meeting At Barnharts The March meeting of the Wonder What club was held at the home of Mrs. Alice Barnhart with Edna Smith and Clark1! Zimmerman as co-hostesses. The project for the day wa quilting and sewing rug rags. At noon a ham dinner was served to 18 members, three guests and nine children. The April meeting will be held at the home of Greeten Wood ford with Vesta McFarland and Iva Stewart serving as co-host esses. Club prizes went to Vesta Mc Farland, Guila Garvin and Nellie Chandler. Wonder What prizes were awarded to Hallie Hughes, Edith Garvin and Gladys Clark. Members present included Edna Boyd, Edna Brown, Nellie Chandler, Gladys Clark, Minerva Dutton, Allie Garvin, Edith Gar vin, Esther Garvin, Guila Garvin, Hallie Hughes, Vesta McFarland, Esther Moore, Grace Radcliff, Martha Reed, Greeten Woodford, Alice Barnhart, Edna Smith and Clarice Zimmerman. Four Corners Garden Club Enjoys Meeting Tiir March Hireling the Dexter City Four Corners Gar den club was held recently at the home of Icel Hutcheson with Eileen Hutcheson as co-hostess. The president opened the meet ing with a poem by Browning. The roll call was answered by "My First Bloom." Helen Ogle gave an article on "Summer Flowering Bulbs," Valeria Hut cheson gave, "Bulbs on Home Flower Garden." The flower ar rangement for the meeting was by Blanche Long and Ruth Augenstein. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses to the following: Bertha Hayes, Elva Brown, Bess Patten, Grace Rob inson, Lucy Kearns, Edith Mc Farland, Valeria Hutcheson and Blanche Long. ALBERT HAYES WILL OBSERVE GOLDEN WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hayes will observe their golden wedd ing anniversary Sunday, April 5, at their home in Dexter City. Mr. and Mrs. Hayes were married in Woodsfield on April 6, 1909. They went to house keeping in Middleburg where they lived ior 11 years, then moved to Dexter City, where they have lived for the past. 39 years. To this marriage was born four children, Miss Almeta Hayes, of Marietta Bernard R. Hayes, of Worthington Mrs. Pearl Archer, of Westerville, and Mrs. Dorothy Rose, of Akron. There are also four grandchildren. Mr. Hayes is a retired oil driller. At noon a family dinner will be held- with "open house" being observed from 2:00 until 5:00 o'clock. I I O N E 9 8 The Ava Jolly Good Neighbors met at the home of Margaret Clark Wednesday, March 11, for their regular monthly meeting. At noon a delicious lunch was served to ten members and two guests, Louie Clark and daugh ter, Peggy. The meeting opened with the song, "In the Garden." The 14th chapter of St. Mark was read by Margaret Clark. The meeting was then closed with the Lord's Prayer in unison. Contest prizes were won by Gladys Dudley, Grace Bond and Florence Gillespie. There will be no meeting in April. The next meeting will be May 13 at the home of Lela Stiers. 1 Merrimakers Club Meets At Kathleen Hupp Home Kathleen Hupp was hostess Wednesday evening to members and guests of the Merrimakers club. Amy Rucker and Mary Fiye served as companion host es. Mary Sanford, chairman, was in charge of the business ni'-eting. Achievement Day was an nounced for April 7 at the Cald wt 11 Methodist church. A lovely birthday cake, baked by Mrs. Madelaine West, was presented to Mrs. Nancy Rudge. The business meeting was in charge of Merle Barnhart at which time the class decided to have a bean and vegetable soup supper in the church basement on April 3 from 4:30 until 7:0Q p. m. Prices for the tickets are 65c and 40s. A delicious pot-luck din net was enjoyed by the following members: Mr. and Mrs. Merle Barnhart and children, Mr. and Mrs. Dana Caldwell and son, Dr. and Mrs. J. B. Holds March Meeting The March meeting of the Caldwell W.C.T.U. was held Fri day afternoon in the home of Mrs. Minnie Heddleson on West street. Mrs. Edna Racey, worship leader, used as her theme, "The Width of the Cross," and closed with a poem, "Easter Prayer." Lois Ziler also gave a very in teresting poem. Mrs. Ola Shafer, president, conducted the business meeting. New members reported in cluded Clare Rummer, Vivian Riddle, Helen Watson and Madelaine West. It was an nounced that gifts would be sent to the Francis Willard and the Lillian Stevens Funds. The lesson of he day was on Civil Defense and the making of plastic spring flowers which will be used the decoration for the Achieve ment Day to be held April 7 the Caldwell Methodist church. A dinner in honor of the occas sion was held at the home of the parents on Tuesday evening. East Union Ccuple Observes Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Harold King, of East Union, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, March 22, at their home. The couple received a nice gift from the children and many lovely cards from friends and relatives. A family dinner was prepared by Mrs. Connie Nichols and Mrs. Sylvia Hannum. Caldwell P~ T.~A.~Holds Regular March Meeting Tne regular monthly meeting of the Caldwell P.T.A. was held Monday, March 23, at 8:00 o'clock in the high school audi torium with the president, Hope Webster, presiding. Invocation was given by Rev. Bankes of the Church of Christ, Main street, followed by the pledge of allegi ance. Glen Slay was appointed chair man to take care of selling and sweat shirts by the P.T.A. Murl Thomas, chairman of the nominating committee, reported the election of officers for the the next school year as follows: President, Hope Webster first vice-president, Natalie Dahood second vice-president, Madelaine West secretary, Evelyn Johnson treasurer, Betty Larrick. The banner for March was won by the fourth grade class. The theme for the meeting was, "Let's Hear From Our V.I.P.'s," with Byron Steen as moderator. Following the business meet ing, refreshments were served to all those attending. Betty Jo Goodwill Honored On Birthday Betty Jo Goodwill, Elba, was honored recently on her 13th birthday with a party. She re ceived many nice gifts. Games and social diversions were en joyed during the evening.
