Thursday, August IT, 1960 Beat Methodists In Deciding Game The game of games was played by tne Baptists and the Metho dists last Friday evening at the industrial field. This was the big decider as to the first place team in the league and they both wanted it badly. The game was a bitter battle feet to the sacks, and out-of-this world catches in the outfield. The first four innings belonged to the Methodists but the Baptists changed this whole idea in the fifth when they got themselves a run to tie up the game. Not satisfied with this pressure, they needed and wanted more security in the lead and that they got in the sixth when three big runs came in, namely, Guiler, Stell fox and Boyles. Trying desperately to get the lead or even to tie up the game the Methodists came up in the seventh but to no avail. They could only get one run across, that being Riddle, the man that got them their first run and the only home run in the game. The winning pitcher was W. Colley who pitched a three hit ball game. Wilson, marking his first defeat, was charged with the loss. He walked one man. The Baptists can actually thank Jack Colley for their vic tory. He played left field like a professional acrobat. Out of 14 fly balls to left field he handled 12 of them flawlessly including four or five catches that ap peared to be sure hits. This lad did everything but balance on his ear to get that ball. TV spec taculars seemed dull compared to the antics he went through to save his team from losing. He made 12 outs in four consecutive innings. Baptist—4 AB J. Riddle got the only home run of the game which he made in the second inning thus putting his team ahead 1-0. This en deaver was soon to be squelched however, for the Baptists came up with the tieing run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win 4 to 2. Riddle scored the only other run the Methodists got, that being in the top of the seventh. This happy little group of smiling faces is the top-notch Caldwell Baptist team that de feated the defending champions of last year, the Methodists, for first place in the Noble county church softball league. The picture was taken right after they blasted their way to the lead after they had trailed the Methodists in the early innings of the game. The lad to be given the credit for the win St. Marys Win Play-Off The Christians and St. Marys tangled in the play-off for fourth place and a chance at the finals last Friday evening at the fair ground field, St. Marys came out the victors winning 15 to 6. S. DeVolld got the only sure fire home run while R. Schell hit a home run on an error by the center fielder of the Chris tian team. M. Rupple did the honors for St. Marys and C. Connell was written down as the loser. He walked one and struck out none. Fulda made three errors in field play while the Christians accounted for five.
