A number of churches of the com munity have made an annual prac tise of taking offerings for benefit of the hospital on the Sunday near est to that day, board members stated. These contributions, they said, have materially aided in the service and work of the institution. National hospital day this year marks the 119th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the Crimean war nurse who made nurs ing a scientific profession and whose efforts to improve standards of hos pital care marked the beginning of the modern hospital.
