Hughson of Orient, a former Bluffton resident arrived Wed nesday to spend the remainder of the week here as the guest of Mrs. Edith Mann. Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Buhler and family of South Lawn avenue are on a motor trip to Mountain Lake, Minn., where they will spend several weeks with relatives. Accompanied by Mrs. Whisler who ar rived here a week previous, the couple are leaving the last of this week for their home in Oceanside, driving thru in a new car which he purchased in Detroit. Mr. Whisler, a former resi dent of this place holds a responsible position with a gas and electric util ity company. He is also president of the chamber of commerce of Oceanside, a city of some 4,500 popu lation. Two race horses, one of which ran in a recent Kentucky derby, have been purchased by Amos Thut of this place from the Stambaugh estate in Ada. Announcement of the purchase was made Tuesday. Stepleton of this place accompanied by their son Theodore Stepleton and daughter Ro berta Ann of Lima motored to Log ansport, Ind., Sunday where they were met by Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Springer and two daughters of Peoria, Ill. After a family dinner in Logansport, Mrs. Stepleton accom panied her daughter, Mrs. Springer and family to Peoria where she will remain for several weeks. SOCIETIES and CLUBS June Wedding Announcement has been made of the coming wedding of Miss Gayle Amstutz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Amstutz to Donavin Gratz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Gratz. The wedding will be an event of Sunday, June 23 in the First Men nonite church here. Methodist Missionary The Methodist Women’s Mission ary society will meet at the home of Mrs. Delos Keel, Monday night, Mrs. Grace Cox and Miss Mildred Keel will be assistant hostesses. Members are requested to bring mite boxes. Gertrude Hoy Circle The Gertrude Hoy Missionary circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Guy Scoles, Monday night. Alpha Gamma Meeting of the Alpha Gamma club scheduled for Friday night at the home of Miss Eleanor Niswander has been indefinitely postponed, it was announced by officers of the club. College Couple to Wed Wedding of two Bluffton college graduates will be an event of the commencement week here. The mar iage of Miss Vivian Heck, a senior and William Tisdale, graduate of the class of 1939 will take place in the College chapel. P. W. Club The P. W. club met at the home of Mrs. Lowell Habegger, Tuesday evening. A poem “A Symphony of Bloom” was read by Mary Jane Carr. Mrs. Oren Doty gave a read ing entitled “Little Things”. To Wed Thursday Announcement has been made of the wedding of Miss Juanita Weiss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aldine Weiss of this place to Dwight Zim merly of Pandora. The wedding will take place Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wilch of Arling ton visited Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Warner New land and family. Harold Wenger is convelescing at Bluffton hospital following an opera tion which he underwent the latter part of last week. Mrs. Clayton Murray and little son John spent last Wednesday and Thursday in Lima at the home of Virgil Beery and family. Elbert Kohli left Sunday for De catur, Ill., where has a position as assistant to his brother, Armin Kohli who is employed by the city’s light and power company. Funeral For Mrs. Mary Thut, Monday Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Thut, 93, former resident of New Stark, and well known here, were held in Goshen, Ind., Monday. Mrs. Thut died Saturday night at Goshen, where she had lately made her home. She was the last of her family and a sister of the late Mrs. Andrew Hauenstein. Surviving are two sons: Rev. Al bert Thut of Clarinda, Iowa, and Dr. Frank Thut of Elida. Four daugh ters surviving are Mrs. Wm. Page and Mrs. E. J. Zook both of Goshen, Ind. Mrs. Sam Staldter of North ville, Mich., and Mrs. Charlotte Eby of Texas. Mrs. Clayton Murray of this place is a granddaughter. Among those from Bluffton attend ing the funeral services, Monday were Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Hauen stein, Mr. and Mrs. Armin Hauen stein and son Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hauenstein, Mrs. Chris Bixel, Mrs. Sarah Geiger, Mrs. Clayton Murray, Miss Rhoda Hilty and Rev. Former Resident Dies In Kansas Mrs. Jennie Moore, 79, a former Bluffton resident and sister of Mrs. Mattie Morrison of this place, died in a hospital at Wichita, Kansas, Monday night, according to word re ceived here. Mrs. Moore, the widow of the late John Moore was the daughter of Doud Goble, a pioneer resident of this place. For many years she has lived in Caldwell, Kansas. The funeral will be held in Cold well on Friday afternoon followed by interment at that place. Mrs. Edgar Hauenstein, a niece, will at tend the services. Besides her sister at this place, Mrs. Moore is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Pierson Carmean of Los Angeles one sister, Mrs. Thcs. Moore of Springfield and one brother Charles Goble of Cement City, Mich. Many Visit Exhibits At Flower Display Some twenty-five varieties of flow ers, profusely exhibited, were shown in the Spring Flower display and tea sponsored by the Bluffton Garden club, Saturday afternoon and even ing. The exhibit, held in the lobby of the Citizens National bank was largely attended and attractive ar rangement of the displays brought forth much favorable comment. A display of mounted plant speci mens from the biology department of Bluffton college was shown by Miss M’Della Moon, instructor in charge. By popular vote the most effective flower arrangements were as fol lows 1st—Bridal table setting, bouquet consisting of lilies of the valley and white lilacs, arranged by Mrs. C. F. Niswander and Miss Edith Amstutz. 2nd—Lilies of the valley and nar cissus arrangement by Mrs. C. H. Smith. 3rd—Pink tulips and flowering tamrack, by Mrs. C. H. Smith. 4th—Bleeding hearts by Mrs. Cal vin Steiner white lilacs and pink tulips by Mrs. Gerhard Buhler. 5th—Mixed bouquet of tulips, iris, columbine by Mrs. Paul Studior pink tulips and pink bush honey suckle by Mrs. Otto Holtkamp.
